Woolly and Tig, Balamory, Me Too, Bits and Bobs and now "keetee moooregg."

And only one scouser, and not a single northerner! What's going on?!

I think realising early that there are a variety of accents in the world can only help development. I find it quite insulting to say it's confusing to English children. What about Scottish children, welsh children and Northern Irish children watching tv with English accents? The UK has 4 countries although a lit of people don't seem to realise this. I am proud of my accent, Gaelic is amazing I love listening to it despite not speaking a word of it. The shinty on bbc alba is fantastic.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/11/2013 12:43

Old Jack's Boat is set in Yorkshire and Waybuloo is Scottish but dubbed over.

The Midlands is very under represented! Not everything revolves around Birmingham!

womblesofwestminster · 14/11/2013 13:00

"Keith Fitt from Gigglebiz is Scouse"

This made me laugh. Keith has the voice of a Geordie but the looks of a Scouse. YANBU to get confused.

Who's welsh accents are fake?

Fleta · 14/11/2013 13:25

The whole "northern accents" thing really makes me laugh Grin There's no such thing! The north of England has such hugely diverse accents-Yorkshire alone has different accents across the different ridings.

For Yorkshire accents I can think of the little boy from Green Balloon Club who is from Scarborough. Old Jack's Boat is set in Staithes I believe but Bernard Cribbens is from Lancashire.

shezzle · 14/11/2013 13:26

Not one of the presenters has a Scottish accent do they? My two children couldn't give a monkeys about accents!!

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 13:29

Hang on Mr Bloom isn't Northern? What?

ArtisanLentilWeaver · 14/11/2013 13:48

thebody- I think Small's voice is Lenny Henry and he is from Brum.

AugustaProdworthy · 14/11/2013 13:51

If Scotland do get independence what would happen to BBC Scotland?
(I'd like some northern voices personally)

sandfrog · 14/11/2013 14:01

Agree about the fake accents. Mr Bloom's "northern" accent is obviously fake and it's just lazy to avoid finding a real northern actor.

sandfrog · 14/11/2013 14:02

Oh and why does anything rural have to have a SW England accent? There are plenty of other rural areas.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 14/11/2013 14:02

But the bloke off Mr Bloom made up the programme. Wonder why he decided to play it northern when he's Cornish.

HopAlongOnItsOnlyChristmas · 14/11/2013 14:04

It sounds quite realistic to me and I'm kind of a Manc.

Callani · 14/11/2013 14:09

Well no matter if the Scottish accents go out of fashion, I bet us Brummie's will never end up being the favourites on TV (thank goodness...)

RobinSparkles · 14/11/2013 14:11

Big and Small definitely isn't fake Brummie. It whatsisname doing the voices.

Oh my god, I can't remember his name! It'll come to me.

RobinSparkles · 14/11/2013 14:12

Lenny Henry!

Thank goodness. That would have bugged me all day!

Callani · 14/11/2013 14:15

*Brummies even!

ercoldesk · 14/11/2013 14:15

I'm sure someone else has said it, but how could Katie Morag have anything other than a Scottish accent?

BBC Scotland is obviously just doing it's bit.

PseudoBadger · 14/11/2013 14:18

Lenny Henry is Big and Small! And the mouse(? It's been a while since I saw it, anyway, the female character) is Imelda Staunton.
Nearly all the female and children characters in Postman Pat are done by the same woman.

ballinacup · 14/11/2013 14:19

Keith Fit does not have a Geordie accent. It's a typical middle-class-southerner-putting-on-a-Geordie-accent-and-mangling-it accent.

Pearl verlting indeed.

BerstieSpotts · 14/11/2013 14:20

Did you know that the children in Waybuloo are also Scottish but they dubbed them with London accents which always sound really bizarre, forced and fake, especially the laughing! Confused I guess somebody in TV land decided there were too many scottish programmes already Grin

Don't forget Abney and Teal, no accent but "Neep" is a Scottish word.

From my childhood there was the Family Ness.

MyMILisfromHELL · 14/11/2013 14:20

Yanbu. Get Well Soon also features a Scottish accent. Nina & the Neurons is also bloody annoying.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind the accent, but the amount of programs on cbeebies with a Scottish accent are disproportionate to the population. My dh is Scottish so it drives me nuts hearing the accent all the time.

mumteedum · 14/11/2013 14:34

FannyFifer · 14/11/2013 14:45

The vast majority of accents on the BBC are English.
Nice that Scottish children can hear words pronounced correctly with Scottish accents on kids TV.
