Beacuse they used the word 'playdate'... Twice!?

In fact 'a double playdate'

FFS! Grin

Nina and the Neurons is worth the licence fee alone IMHO

Agreed! Although DS calls it "Nina and the New Ones".

Topsy and Tim books are great - we've got some of the really olds ones (where Uncle Frank smokes) and the newer ones too. I've not been able to bring myself to watch the tv series though for fear of it being ruined for me but the DC keep asking for it.

HappyHippyChick · 22/11/2013 20:11

Are there several other full T&T threads that I missed or are the "thousands" of mums complaining about its sexism (from Daily Fail article) just the 129 people on this thread!! Hmm

KaseyM · 22/11/2013 20:11

The Telegraph and the Fail! It's so weird how the press come here and take their material from our threads - it's like they're obsessed with us or something!!

Then everyone slags us off, when peeps were just having a chat on a social forum, I mean shish kebabs....

PavlovtheCat · 22/11/2013 20:14

steam don't watch it. Your memories will be crushed.

Whistleforit · 22/11/2013 20:14

I love it - it makes me fall asleep immediately & kids are distracted thus can barely comment on plot. But I HATE Gigglebiz (??) and so do the dcs so they wake me up. Does anyone's kids get spoofs of the Antiques frigging Road Show?? What am I missing here. Creepy, annoying, pointless.

Bedsheets4knickers · 22/11/2013 20:20

this kills me my dp hates it even more. my 3 year old does watch it but then asks to watch mister maker after.

Bedsheets4knickers · 22/11/2013 20:29

oh and when that dog knocked over marble run, WELL..... that just had me spitting feathers................ BUT..... In my honest opinion my 3 year old son is very dissmissive of our 1 year old daughter. Shes always cooed at him then started giggling at him, then started crawling and would approach him. he cant be quite standoffish towards her. she now keeps her distance from him. Its makes me sad. I try to encourage my son to watch this topsy and tim to help me re-enforce how siblings would live in an ideal world.

SteamWisher · 22/11/2013 20:57

Pavlov but I really want to now after this thread!

SteamWisher · 22/11/2013 20:58

Bedsheets - my 4 and 2 year old are like that sometimes, but we get them to play together and they're much better. I leave them to it sometimes, and encourage DS to help her etc etc (he's the oldest). Maybe, not to patronise, but show him how to interact with her.

Zappo · 22/11/2013 21:54

I like it. We are in the middle of moving. We do have that Galt Marble run. We are going to get DC pets when we move to the new house.

However, I am not anywhere near as chilled/groomed as the mum.
DH is not a buffoon.

BikeRunSki · 22/11/2013 22:00

I remember the books as a child, and I also rememver my mum saying how dire they were.

I now agree!

mistermakersgloopyglue · 22/11/2013 22:05

I saw the dinosaur/butterfly jeans episode and my first thought was 'they won't like that on mumsnet' Grin

What is Topsy a nickname for?

Astr0naut · 22/11/2013 22:25

ds (4) loves it almost as much as gigglebiz. I haven't actually watched an episode, but I do vaguely remember the books. and at least it means grandpa isn't putting his sodding shrinking cap on every night.

Dancergirl · 22/11/2013 22:35

Yes zoo to paddling pool Smile And she did change her mind.

Anyone got foggy day? Obviously before H and S, they sit around the open fire at Miss Maypole's (great name) nursery school while the fog lifts.

EugenesAxe · 22/11/2013 23:05

I like it simply because my two children (3.10 and 2) love it. The caveat is that I haven't sat through that many of the episodes.

From the brief amount I have seen, I find the mother too OCD - that dog one I was getting well tired of her saying 'wash your hands' after touching the damned dog. And I am someone who is not very sentimental about pets and who always hand-washes after touching dogs. Also I was a bit Hmm about the slightly mauled toilet paper going in the bin. I would have just brushed it down a bit, used fresh sheets for my lady parts and the ravaged element for my arse. Maybe I would have got worms somehow, but fuck it - I hate waste.

I love the books... my DS (the elder) does a great impression of me doing an impression of a Texan accent when they meet Mr Jumbo in '...Visit The Tower of London'. And I'm kind of immune to the gender bias... I am currently reading an original version of 'The Magic Faraway Tree' in chapters to DS; so I'm already doing a virtual self-flagellation for exposing him to an extreme one.

jaundicedoutlook · 22/11/2013 23:22

Not seen the programme yet, but DD can't get enough of the book where both of the little horrors are infested with head lice...

hottea7 · 23/11/2013 00:06

Mine love it! Their most favourite book is topsy and tim have a birthday party and daddy nicks a sausage, I have to pretend the mummy goes mental screaming at daddy for eating all the party food, I think if they make that into an episode the kiddies are going to be a tad disappointed

Marzipanface · 23/11/2013 00:32

My three year old thinks it is crap.

Offred · 23/11/2013 09:36

It is awful. Not only for the sexism but the completely unrealistic portrayal of family relationships, the creepy painted on smiles and relentlessly fake enthusiasm. It is a really toxic show. Unfortunately my 7 year old dd loves it and I won't ban it but I'll only allow her to watch it with supervision and a lot of discussion over what is wrong with it and why. Terrible terrible decision by the BBC.

BigToesofFrog · 23/11/2013 09:38

tedbersmum I had the swimming one too - it was my only tipsy and Tim book - and I remember that lolly in vivid detail too!

However it really bugged me because it was a competition and TIM didn't win, he got the lolly as a consolation prize for not using armbands. But the spectacular lolly was much bigger and better than the actual first prize!

Not that it matters, but I remember feeling very miffed that my parents would not engage with me about the injustice of it. I was so sorry for the actual winner who had to see tim get the amazing loly.

I think this might say more about me than t&t...

I have only seen bits of the programme and obviously it's nothing like the books, and dd has not really taken to it. But what a shame it's sexist. There's absolutely no excuse whatsoever. All it takes is a bit of thought, and it's so important.

CBBC should really have a consultant who simply checks every script for sexist tosh. It's not that hard FGS.

threepiecesuite · 23/11/2013 09:54

My 3yo dd absolutely loves it. We have a few of the books too and she loves them. I like that its set on a normal looking 70s estate and they live in a normal sized house with washing drying in ths lounge.

When is Katie Morag on? I think she'd like that too.

TeacupDrama · 23/11/2013 10:14

sunday 5.30;pm for katie morag

ironman · 23/11/2013 11:45

I have have watched Topsy and Tim. Harmless children's programme.
I never took any notice tbh as I believe, to may other important issues around such as the invasion of the Bulgarians and Romanians!

GreenShadowInTheLibrary · 23/11/2013 15:10

'Toxic' Offred ! Hardly.

It shows what is normal for hundreds of thousands of children in Britain today.

Yes, of course there is a place to educate children into gender equality, but it doesn't need to be forced down their throats every minute of the day.

NellysKnickers · 23/11/2013 15:34

Oh FFS. Sexist indeed. Ds2 loves it, so do I. It's very sweet and nicely done. So there.
