to look at the contents of a memory card in a secondhand camera?

I bought a second hand camera. It's lovely, and was a bargain - and it had a memory card and everything.

I looked at the pictures that were on it (very dull) but the OH is appalled and says I should have formatted the card without looking.

I just wondered what you would have done?

I would look at the pictures and try and trace the previous owner as they may not have other copies and they may have some sentimental value.

Onesleeptillwembley · 13/11/2013 16:52

Err what any normal person would have done. Had a nosey!

EugenesAxe · 13/11/2013 16:53

Yeah I thought exactly what ItsAll said. Personally I don't think you were being that much out of order, although I can also get where he's coming from.

ZooCheur · 13/11/2013 16:54

I bought it off a well-known auction site so I can contact the owner, but I don't want to say "oh, I looked through all your pictures - shall I send you copies?"

There weren't loads and the ones there were weren't very good so I presume they downloaded the ones they wanted and forgot to delete the rest. OH thinks I shouldn't have looked in principle though but I'm sure most people would do - just trying to find out if it's just me!

I would have looked! You'd have to be a bit odd to resist imo!

II'm naturally very nosy though Blush

I would have totally looked at them, in fact I would have probably printed them off and created an art installation. I am terror level nosey.

SarahAndFuck · 13/11/2013 17:02

I'd have looked.

You could just ask if they realised the card was still in it and should you have a look to see if there are any photos and would they like you to email them back?

ZooCheur · 13/11/2013 17:04

So, you nosey people, would you, for example use a 'recover deleted pictures' program (installed because of your own stupidity some months ago)?

For example, obviously.

I would. But I am super nosey. In your example if you did find anything good I'd assume you'd update us....

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 13/11/2013 18:12

I would have looked.
There could have been photos important to someone such as there could have been a set of photos of a very elderly person in a hospital bed cooing over a new baby. I would then do my utmost to find the previous owner as they may be the last photos they'll ever have of such a scenario.
and I'm bloody nosy me

usualsuspect · 13/11/2013 18:13

Most people would have a nose.

RevelsRoulette · 13/11/2013 18:15

I would look at photos that were actually there but I wouldn't use a programme to try to recover deleted ones. Now that really would feel like an invasion of privacy.

gorionine · 13/11/2013 18:15

I would have looked and I am not really nosy in general.

usualsuspect · 13/11/2013 18:16

I wouldn't try to recover deleted photos.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 13/11/2013 18:17

Zoo
No I wouldn't recover deleted ones
I'm bloody nosy but not that bloody nosy
And I'm bloody lazy me
