to ask how much you receive in tax credits?

We've had a change in circumstances so I've just had a new award through the door.

They're giving us £1100 every four weeks.

This seems a huge amount?

Does anyone else get this much?

angelos - We are supporting ourselves - we both have jobs - I called tax credits to notify them of a change and they sent me an award saying 1100 per month.... I'm as surprised as you are! I'm not 'diddling' any system...how would you even do that?!

Oh - and I too will be leaving the house tomorrow before it's light to go to my job, as will my husband Hmm

There are some really disgusting replies on here. Shame on you.

OP, it couldn't hurt to get tax credits to reassure you that the award is correct. They are fuckers for overpaying you one year and then wrecking you to get it back the next.

FYI though, with an income that low you will be eligible for HB if you rent. Give the council a call.

BornOfFrustration · 13/11/2013 17:02

I remember DH doing such long hours for almost bugger all redbreast it wasn't nice, I feel for you.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/11/2013 17:02

Ouryve, yes, you're right, I'd just never thought about it before and I suppose I meant lower income rather than low. It is a misleading name.

What is the threshold for paying tax, just out of interest?

MrsSippie · 13/11/2013 17:02

We get £43 a MONTH - 2 children under 16. I work 30 hours, dh 15, in average paid jobs. We are paying a mortgage. One dc gets low rate dla and goes to after school club. We can't manage :( But they say it's right.

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 17:02

smite - I would be worried about hate mail if I applied for any other benefit!!

TantrumsAndBalloons · 13/11/2013 17:03

Yes of course. What we will do is get rid of tax credits.

Then people working minimum wage jobs or on zero hour contracts won't be able to afford to work because they can't afford the full time childcare.

So they will have to claim income support. And then you can call them work shy scroungers. That's much better.

I find it so pathetic when people are actually jealous of people working part time, minimum wage jobs. And earning a small amount of money.

Get a grip. Clearly you are earning a decent wage

If it bothers you so much, quit your job, get a16 hour a week job for minimum wage, get your childcare paid for, and all will be well.

lougle · 13/11/2013 17:03

My DH recently took on an extra 5 hours work. By the time all the adjustments were done to benefits, his above NMW hourly wage was reduced to £0.63 per hour

cantheyseeme · 13/11/2013 17:03

Are you blind angelos, they do work!!!! I recieve about half of that amount and i also work full time, i am not bitter as i dont just work to earn, i love knowing i work hard! We are entitled so whats the problem, life on minimum wage and tc's isnt all luxuries, if people are that pissed off with their well paid jobs, find something less!

Is it possible that come next year you may be asked to pay some back? Because don't they base it on the previous year's earnings?

The confusing paperwork meant I never bothered sending it back but as far as I know with 2 full time jobs and only one child I wouldn't get anything anyway.

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 17:04

thank you for all the kind words, btw

noddyholder · 13/11/2013 17:05

It doesn't sound like 'one long fucking weekend'. How rude

FairyJen · 13/11/2013 17:07

red I'd get it checked more for peace of mind than anything else. Apart from that though remember there are far more important things in life than money. Working hard and having a good attitude unlike someone I won't mention are things money can't buy you, so chin up!

ruddynorah · 13/11/2013 17:07

Sounds about right to me if your income is 10k and you have 3 kids and use childcare. I'm a single patent earning 7.5k a year, one child at school, one at nursery. I get £815 every 4 weeks. The nursery is £270 a week, so 70% of that is included.

jojane · 13/11/2013 17:08

We both work and have 3 dc and get £12 a month!

lougle · 13/11/2013 17:08

Caretakers, learning support assistants, cleaners, school admin staff, care assistants, refuse collectors, waiters and waitresses - all roles that are paid a low wage, but are essential.

Would we like those roles to become unfulfilled? Would we like teachers to have the classes of 30 on their own, then clean the class room afterwards, then go for a litter pick, etc?

Or are we going to accept that wherever you are, no matter what the cost of living, there will be jobs which don't pay a living wage and require a top-up from the Government?

lottieandmia · 13/11/2013 17:08

Those of you moaning about tax credits and saying 'it's not fairrrrrrrrrr waaaaaaaaaaah' - how do you think people could afford to pay their electricity and gas bills and rent without this kind of support? The cost of living in this country is extremely high. Food banks are being used more and more - why do you think that is?

Would you prefer this country to be like the US where there are people with their hands out on every street corner??

lillias · 13/11/2013 17:11

Also shouldn't think she needs much childcare working term time only 16 hrs a week?

lillias · 13/11/2013 17:13

It's this (making a go of it) or ending up like lillias...

are you taunting me because I work full time?

DaddyPigsMistress · 13/11/2013 17:13

Fucking hell some people are bonkers. Ingnore the crazies op

If in doubt give them A ring, My sil earns similar to you and gets about the same so it may not be wrong

We get £140 a month and we are struggling. We have just applied for housing benifit and hope we get some help or we are buggered. We live in a ha flat so cant move snywhere cheaper sadly

Am thinking of selling my children before Christmas to save some pennies Grin

IneedAsockamnesty · 13/11/2013 17:14

Lill,

Stop it you've already been told to wind it in.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 13/11/2013 17:15

Would you not think that?

Do you know how old her DCs are? No, I didn't think so.

She could have young DCs not in school that require childcare.

Just because she works term time, it doesn't mean all her DCs go to school. And even if they are at school, who said she works school hours? And what about school holidays?

Seriously, think before you post. There are many reason why someone uses childcare.

MrsBramleyApple · 13/11/2013 17:16

lillias why are you continuing to taunt the OP???? MN have asked you to lay off already!!

FairyJen · 13/11/2013 17:16

I looked into that daddypig postage was too high to ship the buggers Grin
