to ask how much you receive in tax credits?

We've had a change in circumstances so I've just had a new award through the door.

They're giving us £1100 every four weeks.

This seems a huge amount?

Does anyone else get this much?

To be fair we earn a pittance, but I had no idea that we'd get so much in Tax Credits. I thought it was just a top up....obviously it is a huge amount to be getting these replies so I'll call them and spend 4 hours on hold again

We don't get any other benefits - no housing benefit, job seekers or anything (never have)

Some working families are on low wages and tax credits subsidise the income. It's not an out of work benefit.

Heathcliff27 · 13/11/2013 16:31

We get diddly squat

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 16:32

no angelos - £355 + £763 is what the award says Confused

We don't get anything, but if we were entitled to it we would claim it. It does sound a lot, but the childcare element must be worth a bob or two.

TantrumsAndBalloons · 13/11/2013 16:33

Yes, well we don't anything either.

But that is because our income is above the tax credit threshold.

Everyone's circumstances are different so it's pointless comparing it to your own income etc.

Sieveoooplay · 13/11/2013 16:33

I used to get nearly that much when I was working, close to £800. Most of which was for childcare.

Oswin · 13/11/2013 16:33

If your both on a low wage then that sounds right because it will include the 70 percent childcare element.

IneedAsockamnesty · 13/11/2013 16:34

That would not be the amount of tc for someone with 3 kids who is out of work.

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 16:34

I work 16 hours per week, my husband's hours vary (he has his own business). Are earnings total just over £10,000 per year.

Oh fgs - how sad that people have to be jealous and bitter of other people whose circumstances they don't know at all. If the OP didn't get help with paying for childcare then she probably couldn't work! Childcare fees are a huge amount of money to cover (more than private school fees). How is it unfair that someone gets help to enable them to work?

OP
If you are both working on low wages and have high childcare bills that seems entirely within the grounds of normal.

Do not feel guilty or let people diss you

lougle · 13/11/2013 16:35

It sounds very plausible to me. A family on £14k pa with 3 children plus DLA for one child will get over £12k in tax credits, without the child care element.

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 16:35

Who's being jealous and bitter? Have I missed something?

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 16:36

Ok, lougle, thank you...

Well in that case that is probably right.

It's including the childcare element I assume?

God forbid that someone is on a low income and claims money they are actually entitled to.

lottieandmia · 13/11/2013 16:38

Redbreast - I was referring to this comment:

'Fucking hell. That is my monthly take-home pay for working full time. Good to hear people are getting such sums for doing nowt.'

IneedAsockamnesty · 13/11/2013 16:38

Based on your income and what I have assumed your approx childcare costs that sounds about right to me

SeaSickSal · 13/11/2013 16:38

Oh it's the childcare then. The only reason why it's that high otherwise is if you're on income based jsa

cantheyseeme · 13/11/2013 16:39

Shock lillias!!! Tax credits are there as a top up and if you are entitled claim as much help as bloomin possible!

RedbreastRobin · 13/11/2013 16:39

Ah... missed that lottie!
