AIBU?

To think male strippers have no place at a PTA fundraiser?!

Our class rep has organised a fundraising 'Ladies Night' at a local bar. Ticket price is £18 for a welcome drink, buffet and 'entertainment'. Turns out the entertainment (which isn't mentioned on the leaflets distributed in school) is a drag act and two strippers. It's going to be a surprise.

Half the proceeds will go to our children's reception class and half to the PTA funds.

Obviously I can vote with my feet and just not go but AIBU in thinking this is just a bit.... eeeeeuuuuuwwww... To be honest it's not just because it's for the school: the whole idea of a Laydeez Night with male strippers makes my skin crawl. No-one would think it was acceptable for the fathers to get together and organise a 'Lad's Night with Suprise Lapdancers'.

The class rep (first child so new to the school) seems to think the teachers should also be invited...

Maybe I'm just being a snob prude/killjoy and it's all 'just a bit of fun' Hmm but I can't help thinking this is inappropriate. And I wonder how the school would feel about it if they knew what was planned?

Should I have a quiet word with the class rep? Or the school? Or just leave them to it?

Thoughts please, wise women of Mumsnet!

Sorry, I haven't rtft but my god....that is grim! No of course YANBU. I think that sounds absolutely vile. I recently went to a hen night of a young friend and her other young friends had ordered a stripper. On the night most of us disappeared from the room when he arrived and even the younger guest recoiled screaming. It was horrible!!

Ladies night invite from FB, I'd expect strippers and a drag act

Ladies night invite from school, I'd expect manicures, waxing and at a push lambrini

I am wondering how many of the ladies are going to be very disappointed and yet outraged when it's stopped Grin

obviously yanbu. and obviously it is a really bad idea on so many levels. but it is so hilarious in its blatant inappropriateness, that a fairly large part of me would love it to go ahead. there must be other mumsnetters on the pta, so just think of all the highly amusing threads on here that could be started in the wake of this. some may even be worthy of classics. do any of us have the right to deny the mn community of such gems?

been thinking. isn't the expression 'some twat's cock' an oxymoron?

That's. ..gross and wrong on so many levels. And I don't have a big hate-on for stripclubs.

I must ask though that if it does take place, all proceeds go to the head teacher by "making it rain" with bills.

IT HAS TO HAPPEN.

I would be very unhappy if I paid £18 and was not told what the evening consisted of. I don't like stripper shows and wouldn't go to one out of choice.

I have been to two, one was an office hen night in my first job when I was quite young and didn't really know what to say /do. The second one I was trapped into by my own stupidity, politeness and fear of being thought of as a killjoy/prude!

Yanbu its completely inappropriate.

heartbroken our pta meetings are always at the pub with drinks and nibbles and some teachers come as well! It gets more parents to come along, the school have no problem with that.

Shouldn't be a 'surprise' thing, as others have said. For something like this people need to know what they are letting themselves in for and make a decision about weather to go. It's a long way from a macrame evening after all!

I too make the comparison between this and the men hiring a stripper for the evening down the pub for money for the school. You have to. That is what equality is.

PortlyPinUp I'm sure that granddad's willy is fab! Grin

But I was thinking more along the lines of "Move to the left, Dearie, your zimmer frame is hiding the goods!" Kind of stripper granddads...

Certainly be interested to know what they have planned for 'dad's night' - bit of light lap dancing perchance. On no, wait, that would be wrong.

Agree that sexualisation has no place in schools, and that includes mummy watching willy waving for fun.

Update which some of you may find very disappointing...

This morning I received a sensible email back from class rep saying she hadn't really thought about it like that and would cancel the event immediately.

There will be no headlines in the Daily Mail.

Phew.

but was sort of looking forward to the playground outrage

Oh no, she's being totally reasonable! How boring.

I don't think it's inappropriate just because it has been organised by the PTA. It's not as if children are invited. I think that leaflets should have stated what the "entertainment" was though.

The person who organised this must be very naive if she doesn't realise that this kind of surprise will go down like a lead balloon with some parents.

Ha - I dunno why I said 'busted' - I meant to say 'someone's been busted' - subtle difference!
