To think male strippers have no place at a PTA fundraiser?!

FairyFanjoAndFudge · 13/11/2013 13:15

Our class rep has organised a fundraising 'Ladies Night' at a local bar. Ticket price is £18 for a welcome drink, buffet and 'entertainment'. Turns out the entertainment (which isn't mentioned on the leaflets distributed in school) is a drag act and two strippers. It's going to be a surprise.

Half the proceeds will go to our children's reception class and half to the PTA funds.

Obviously I can vote with my feet and just not go but AIBU in thinking this is just a bit.... eeeeeuuuuuwwww... To be honest it's not just because it's for the school: the whole idea of a Laydeez Night with male strippers makes my skin crawl. No-one would think it was acceptable for the fathers to get together and organise a 'Lad's Night with Suprise Lapdancers'.

The class rep (first child so new to the school) seems to think the teachers should also be invited...

Maybe I'm just being a snob prude/killjoy and it's all 'just a bit of fun' Hmm but I can't help thinking this is inappropriate. And I wonder how the school would feel about it if they knew what was planned?

Should I have a quiet word with the class rep? Or the school? Or just leave them to it?

Thoughts please, wise women of Mumsnet!

I don't have a particular problem with a group of people organising something (not on school premises, not involving children, and between consenting adults) and then donating the cash to the school, but it needs to be made very clear to people invited what the "entertainment" is, as, like many posters above, I think a lot of people would assume that a PTA arranged evening for the school, called a Ladies Night, was likely to be wine, chocolate and maybe a bit of pampering, not strippers, tbh. I would be beyond furious to have that sort of surprise on a night I wasn't expecting it. Have no problem with other people going if they find that sort of thing entertaining though - but the need to know.

Mylovelyboy · 13/11/2013 20:15

I really really want this stripper night circus to go ahead Grin Just for the shock factor of the prudes other mums. Would be hilarious to see them all kicking off big stylee by the sight of a couple of willies being swung about Grin

FairyFanjoAndFudge · 13/11/2013 20:30

RocknRoll Shock That link is brilliant. I particularly like:

'I don't want my children using computers funded by such a disgusting event.'

Well quite.

I have emailed the organiser suggesting it's really not such a great idea! I'll see what she says before I speak to anyone else at the school...

Why would you be a prude if you don't want to see some twat's cock on a night out?

Surely you would be 'normal'.

FairyFanjoAndFudge · 13/11/2013 20:44

Haunted I don't think the PTA actually know. I suspect that once people are aware of what is planned (and they will be!) it will be stopped sharpish.

Who do you have as class rep - Katie Price?!

Totally inappropriate. If people want to go to a male strippers night then they should choose to do so, not turn up to the local pub for a few drinks and a chance to chat and find this happening. Presumably if this is reception class, lots of people don't even know each other very well and would feel totally uncomfortable when the entertainment kicks off. It's the kind of thing you want to whoop at with your good mates, not cringe sitting next to Miss Smith, your PFB's reception teacher.

If people don't know what the evening involves, they would be perfectly entitled to demand their money back and I'm sure some will.

ThePortlyPinUp · 13/11/2013 20:45

The preschool that I was on the committee of for 7 years raised £1100 in one evening holding a ladies night, the strippers were dads, grandads and uncles of the children. It was one of the most popular evenings of entertainment in our village in years. Kids had nothing to do with it and loads of money was raised, no one was forced against their will to attend and there was only positive reception to it.

Portly - did all of the people who attended your event know what was happening before hand?

motherinferior · 13/11/2013 20:59

Not a lot of fun for the lesbian mums, is it, either.

I've seen plenty of cocks on nights out, thank you, in my younger and more energetic slapper days. But this wouldn't fry my onion.

ThePortlyPinUp · 13/11/2013 21:00

Oh yes I forgot to add that it was all upfront what was planned, it's a small village so everyone knew the strippers so it was quite popular conversation. I wouldn't agree with it being a surprise.

WilsonFrickett · 13/11/2013 21:10

portly I honestly can think of nothing worse than being confronted by the body of some kid's Grandad who I was going to see at the school gates the next Monday at 3.15. But each to their own, I suppose. And as you say, it wasn't a surprise...

FairyFanjoAndFudge · 13/11/2013 21:10

Portly it seems to me that there is a HUGE difference between dads, uncles and grandads stripping and a professional strippers! Presumably your menfolk didn't get their cocks out? It sounds comic rather than sexual Grin

Very interested to hear what the reply to your email is OP!

SecretNutellaFix · 13/11/2013 21:28

I don't see why "stripping for charity" is going to make any more money for any charity. It actually turns me from supporting them.

It's like everybody has jumped on the bandwagon after Calender Girls.

joanofarchitrave · 13/11/2013 21:30

Just.... no.

I REALLY hope that the booking is a rumour and the actual surprise is a 2 hour lecture by Catharine MacKinnon on pornography and objectification.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 13/11/2013 21:32

Bloody hell!

We got bollocked by our HT for having a PTA meeting in the pub, with drinks and nibbles. They'd go fucking apeshit if we pulled this kind of stunt!

How the other half lives, eh?

i was worried about school gate but

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 13/11/2013 21:35

It sounds like a fun night out, but people should know before hand about the surprise.

Mim78 · 13/11/2013 21:38

I don't think it's a good idea. If they had a "gents night" with female strippers there would (rightly) be uproar, and I don't really think this is any different.

I'm not a massive fan of prescriptively single sex outings anyway, although this often happens among Mums/Dads as someone has to stay home with the kids!

cornflakegirl · 13/11/2013 21:41

Very wrong. I'd email the head. Pretty sure ours would be apoplectic!

Letticetheslug · 13/11/2013 21:43

No, No, No....
