To think male strippers have no place at a PTA fundraiser?!

Our class rep has organised a fundraising 'Ladies Night' at a local bar. Ticket price is £18 for a welcome drink, buffet and 'entertainment'. Turns out the entertainment (which isn't mentioned on the leaflets distributed in school) is a drag act and two strippers. It's going to be a surprise.

Half the proceeds will go to our children's reception class and half to the PTA funds.

Obviously I can vote with my feet and just not go but AIBU in thinking this is just a bit.... eeeeeuuuuuwwww... To be honest it's not just because it's for the school: the whole idea of a Laydeez Night with male strippers makes my skin crawl. No-one would think it was acceptable for the fathers to get together and organise a 'Lad's Night with Suprise Lapdancers'.

The class rep (first child so new to the school) seems to think the teachers should also be invited...

Maybe I'm just being a snob prude/killjoy and it's all 'just a bit of fun' Hmm but I can't help thinking this is inappropriate. And I wonder how the school would feel about it if they knew what was planned?

Should I have a quiet word with the class rep? Or the school? Or just leave them to it?

Thoughts please, wise women of Mumsnet!

Ewww, strippers. Greasy little men in leopard print pants that are too small for them.

And yes, it is rather inappropriate. Perhaps donate but don't attend?

HairyGrotter · 13/11/2013 15:04

Totally inappropriate, I think stripping is grim anyhoo, but fuck me, it'd be a right giggle to see the outcry and horror!

Tough one for me, I disagree with stripping as a whole, but I don't half like a good scene or horror and embarrassment!

Mylovelyboy · 13/11/2013 15:05

Bloody disgrace, shameful. I would love hate to see a couple of male strippers Its very 1980's. Bid odd really. When I younger I saw the Dream Boys at the Circus Tavern in Essex Blush. Was a laugh at the time because strippers were quite the 'in thing' Hmm Just seems so pathetic now days. I'm no prude. But this is horrible. Bet they are an ugly pair of shits as well Grin

LEMisafucker · 13/11/2013 15:06

Now see. I l9ve a male stripper or three but on a pta night? No! On a night out with friends from the pta fine but not FOR the pta

You mean people might go not knowing what they were going to see?

That's not right.

People should know in advance and make an informed choice.

If we pay for your ticket will you go and report back what kind of hell is let loose? Grin

Weegiemum · 13/11/2013 15:59

Totally imagining the PTA types at our school watching male strippers.

LondonInHighHeeledBoots · 13/11/2013 16:19

Shock Totally inappropriate. what would the backlash be if this was a 'boys night' organised by the pta with strippers.

especially if people don't know this was happening. I'd have a quiet word with her, I think it would be insanely uncomfortable for all involved.

WaitMonkey · 13/11/2013 16:46

What a horrible idea. I certainly wouldn't be going.Hmm

WilsonFrickett · 13/11/2013 16:51

Of course it's double standards and for that reason alone it should be stopped.

If that's not possible then people should know ahead of time. TBH most people only attend these things because we feel pressurised in to doing so. I would be humpty enough at feeling I had to go, to then be faced with a bunch of oily strippers, ewwww, no! I would be demanding my money back.

mrsjay · 13/11/2013 16:57

NO NO NOOO strippers god that is vile and inappropriate and just wrong , I was at a night like this for a charity and the organisers cancelled the stripper at the last minute because a few people including me pointed it that for a childrens fundraiser some oily man wanggiling his buts wasnt the best idea they had

mrsjay · 13/11/2013 16:58

BITS* Not his buts Hmm

mrsjay · 13/11/2013 17:01

and it is the surprise element of it as well it is just wrong can you imagine the head teachers face

firesidechat · 13/11/2013 17:48

I would be absolutely fuming if I paid good money and had that sort of "surprise". I really couldn't stomach that brand of entertainment and would want to leave straight away, causing all sorts of embarrassment in the process (mainly mine).

I definitely think people ought to be pre warned and make their own minds up about whether to support it.

I would love to know what percentage of potential attendees would drop out if they knew what was being planned. I may be very naïve, but isn't his a rather niche activity?

well I am probably a prude and a feminist but really this is so beyond appropriate for a fund raiser for a school that I am slightly lost for words.

BabyMummy29 · 13/11/2013 19:17

Totally inappropriate. I hate even being in a pub when someone else has booked a stripper.

I remember once being out for lunch and this disgusting guy thrusting his bits at all and sundry.

Especially as I was eating a sausage sandwich at the time!

I bet there'd be an outcry if there was Men's Night with lapdancers and some private booths.

WilsonFrickett · 13/11/2013 19:49

I am taking this very seriously but the thought of babymummy eating a sausage sandwich during a lunchtime thrust is making me lol.

MoominMammasHandbag · 13/11/2013 19:56

It's completely sleazy and innapropriate. Just apes the worst of male behaviour.

RocknRollNerd · 13/11/2013 20:00

I don't think this school was particularly thrilled when their PTA doing it made the national press.

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 13/11/2013 20:03

OP YANBU strippers are completely inappropriate for this type of event. Quite frankly I wouldn't want to watch strippers at any type of event.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 13/11/2013 20:07

I'm no prude but this is out of order.

Plus it's deceitful. Wrong on so many levels.

Hen parties.... etc... yes but not a PTA fundraiser.

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 13/11/2013 20:10

It's a dreadful idea.

But it's also a little bit funny. Go op and report back!
