to think if you are a TV presenter, you don't have to wear a poppy and you should not be subject to sexist and racist abuse

Seeing as how we have been debating poppy wearing recently.

A news presenter in London did not wear a poppy. She is female and from an ethnic minority so it does not take a huge leap to imagine some of the racist and sexist insults that she got.

Wear a poppy. Don't wear one. But don't abuse people who don't wear one.

Wow, that's not on at all! And nuts about the Google thing too, can't believe some idiot wanted it to be "spectacular", what a choice of word.

floatyflo · 13/11/2013 09:57

Your title reads funny.

Only tv presenters should'nt be subject to racist and sexist abuse??

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/11/2013 09:57

It wasn't David Cameron was it? (The google thing). Didn't he say he wanted next years "celebrations" to be spectacular like the jubilee.

WorraLiberty · 13/11/2013 09:58

The abuse was disgusting.

However, she's way up her own arse if she thinks her 'giving screen time' to one charity over another, is going to make a jot of bloody difference to the charity.

She's a regional newsreader, not a Hollywood star.

No need to abuse the woman though.

OrlandoWoolf · 13/11/2013 09:58

That's not what it's supposed to be. It's the fact that a TV presenter should not have to wear a poppy if they don't want to and if they do not wear one, then they should not be targetted by abuse.

Thats pretty bloody ridiculous. Such a shame she felt she had to defend herself. I'd rather ITV had made a statement supporting her TBH.

OrlandoWoolf · 13/11/2013 10:22

"Presenter tries to defend not wearing her red poppy on air. "Some of my best friends are forces." Poppy on or Charlene off. "

Katie Hopkins valuable contribution to the debate. No mention of the abuse.
