They have suffered the worst storm in recorded history and they were already so poor before

They're in the process of flying aid over from the uk. The Royal Navy are also on their way too. I don't know what countries who are nearer to the disaster are doing.

heard on the radio this morning that two war ships are on their way with aid and help. Its all in hand OP

I had a text from save the children for a donation. I assume they sent loads out and don't just know I'm a soft touch!

IamInvisible · 12/11/2013 21:01

The Government have pledged £10m.

The Navy have got a ship going to help. An RAF C-17 aircraft is going to help.

Other countries have pledged money and the US are sending a Naval ship but I guess it all takes time unfortunately.

We searched online 2 days ago for a DEC page and ended up giving through Oxfam. It's up now though.

Gruntfuttock · 12/11/2013 21:10

I just tried to donate via the DEC site but when I click on the 'pay' button I just get a blank page. No browser add-ons are blocking anything so I'll find another way. I really hope this is a temporary glitch because they could lose out on a lot of money - or at least it will be delayed - if everyone is having the same problem.

Please donate to shelter box. My aunt is going out there as a group leader and they are taking shelter, supplies etc for 4000 families - it is the best charity to get quick, useful items to the right people.

Gruntfuttock · 12/11/2013 21:18

Just to add info to previous post, it's working fine now. Smile It must have been high traffic earlier causing the problem.

dd781 · 12/11/2013 21:20

Please also consider a donation to IMPACT, the charity I support. They don't have the resources for a big publicity campaign...but they are brilliant, and have a team of local people on the ground doing their best to reach those most in need (medical care/survival packs etc). More details here

A close family member in the army is on 24 hour standby notice. They will be told tomorrow morning where but we all think it is the Phillipines. It is the sort of thing his regiment is trained for. It must be a logistical nightmare though. I only hope those poor people can hold on and that help is on its way Sad

Strumpetron · 12/11/2013 21:26

I've seen loads of appeals, I've also read loads about what governments and agencies are doing too.

At the moment all my spare change is going on the food banks I'm supporting around here, there's just too much help needed and not enough cash :(

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 12/11/2013 21:43

Huffington Post article listing several ways to help.

Justforlaughs · 12/11/2013 22:22

I've just watched the news where a plane arrived from the US - empty! Just to pick up their nationals and remove them. Now, I understand why they would want to do this, but surely they could have sent aid instead of an empty plane!
