My mother appears to be right, Goddamnit, but WHY? (Trivial)

My mother would make mince, for example, for shepherd's pie by cooking a joint of lamb, then mincing it with the Kenwood thing then adding the other stuff. Repeat as sensible for other dishes. I would use mince from a packet in the supermarket.

Why the fuck does my mother's meal taste so much better than mine, when the only difference is I buy mince and she makes it??

Because yours has stuff added to it to bulk it out

Oh bloody hell, she's going to be right about "substandard ingredients" too, isn't she? :(

She is right. It's meant to be made with leftovers from a roast. Hers taste better as for many cooked things the flavours develop over the second day.

Her meat is good quality, off the bone meat. Mince from the supermarket is the bits that are left over after the joints and steaks have been removed, all minced up.

It's a bit like comparing a steak and a beef burger!

Roast meat will have lots of caramelised bits from the edges which always taste best. Browning raw mince never gets the right levels of crunchy goodness.

I hate you all! Wink but I love my mum, and I'm able to be pleased she wins (and I get to enjoy her superior meals quite often!) :)

You can go into a butcher, buy decent meat and get them to mince it in front of you. Which is what my GM used to do.
