to want to give the oiks who threw a large lump of wood off a footbridge

and onto my car travelling at 50 mph on the dual carriageway below, a bloody good slapping? Especially as I was travelling with DD aged 10 and DS aged 12, the latter sitting in the passenger seat and who would have got the full force of the blow if the thing had actually gone through the windscreen? Angry

That is really bloody awful Angry Lucky, you're all fine!

Where I live a girl died, because a drunk twat threw a traffic cone off a foot bridge, and she was underneath Sad

WTF is wrong with people??!!!

ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 01:06

I don't know what you can do, though.. If you saw them, maybe call the police?

hottiebottie · 11/11/2013 01:14

Thanks - didn't think anyone had thrown it at first, as there was nobody on the bridge when DCs looked back - the thing just came out of nowhere and you can't really stop and investigate on a dual carriageway. It was only when we called the police later just in case that they took the details, then rang us back to say several other cars had been hit around about the same time! Police taking it very seriously, checking CCTV etc. At least nobody was hurt. No-claims bonus will be, though! Sad

Well, at least the police are looking into it.. Hope nobody was badly hurt and that they find the fucker(s)!

That's crappy about the bonus.Sad

Have a nice drink and try to relax. How are the DC?

hottiebottie · 11/11/2013 01:33

Done that already! Grin DCs surprisingly not as shaken up as you might expect, as we didn't really understand what had happened until we got home! DS had a new hamster in a box on his lap, who appeared to sleep through the whole thing. I'm assuming the culprits shied away from throwing stones or bottles on the basis that a piece of wood wouldn't cause as much damage Hmm. Let's hope they get caught and they can tell it to the judge. Sorely tempted to go and hang around the footbridge same time next Sunday, vigilante-style!

OP posts:
ToysRLuv · 11/11/2013 01:41

I would feel the same, but it would probably be you who would get prosecuted, if you drop kicked them to the moon (I'm sure you'd like to do that!).. Hmm

Great that DC are not too shaken. Hopefully the new hamster will keep them preoccupied Smile

Try to get some sleep (or at least have a lie down), and do let us know if the police catch them!

hottiebottie · 11/11/2013 10:08

Thank you TRL, hamster did keep DCs occupied. Smile Presumably the young thugs will carry on doing it as they think they've got away with it, so maybe the police will catch them eventually, but not holding my breath for a quick conviction. Hmm

You've done well keeping the car under control, easy to veer or brake badly when something like that happens.

Just hope they don't cause a serious accident before the bum-clangers are caught.

hottiebottie · 11/11/2013 11:43

Just had a call - police have investigated as far as they can but don't have anything to go on. I suggested checking out same time same place and they said that's what they do when they send patrols out, but surely if they want to catch them at it then wouldn't it make sense to send a few "plain clothes" people to check out footbridges over busy roads on sunny afternoons? In the meantime I'll be looking up every single time I drive under one of those things... Angry

hottiebottie · 15/11/2013 22:32

Update - as feared, they've progressed to rocks. I'm fairly sure that this incident, two days after ours, involves the same bridge or at least one very close to it.

Just had the estimate to fix the car - less than the insurance excess, but still £160.00 plus VAT! Angry I suppose in view of the above we could be regarded as fortunate. The police are onto it, apparently. Hmm

Cases like these should be treated as attempted murder, you'd have to be very stupid not to think throwing large objects at fast moving cars couldn't very well turn out to be fatal to somebody.

AmIthatHot · 15/11/2013 22:43

I wouldn't have called them oiks. stupid little fuckers would be more appropriate Angry

hottiebottie · 15/11/2013 22:49

AmIthatHot I was repeating the term used by the police officer who rang me back, but you are right of course. azzbiscuit - I agree, "criminal damage" to me means graffiti or smashing a shop window. Not condoning such crimes, but any action with potentially fatal consequences should be classified as something more serious.

PoppyWearer · 15/11/2013 22:52

I will hold them down for you, OP.

coffeeandcream · 15/11/2013 23:08

Near to where I live a few years ago we had a similar incident which the police treated as attempted murder. Two youths dropped a bucket sized lump of concrete off a foot bridge onto an A road, stove in a car barely missed the driver.

Little bastards we're never caught either. You and your family (ickle hamster included!) have had a lucky escape!

JazzAnnNonMouse · 15/11/2013 23:10

Fucking idiots, this kind of thing really frightens me Sad
