Photograph, posted on Facebook (and, therefore, in my eyes, endorsed) by a teacher of a group of people dressed up for Halloween. One person, "blacked up" (face mask, brownish make up on neck etc) one person "whitened up" (face mask, White make up) and a third person, also made up but in a brown colour. "Black man" wearing track suit, trainers and lots and lots of jewellery. "White woman" in curlers, Primark hoodie, track suit bottoms, heels. "Brown person" (an adult) in a child's buggy with a bottle, dummy and carrying what looks like a lunch box.

AIBU to think that this is racist and stereotyping of the worst kind. That they are dressed as a mixed race "chav" (not a word I would use but...) low income family who bottle feeds their baby, dresses badly and pushes a very old child around, who are all overweight etc.

Now I know these people. The area we live in is NOT at all multi cultural so there is unlikely to have been anyone offended at the party. But I am offended.

FWIW at least one of these people works with children on a daily basis.

Mumsnet, over to you.

I didn't say you didn't know how to conduct yourself in the workplace on a personal level. Try reading. My issue is with your understanding of legal obligations and companies having an obligation to fulfil them in practice and your views on people's obligations to their company in terms of conduct outside and links to social media.

Hope that makes it clear enough for you.

taffleee · 10/11/2013 18:04

Mylovelyboy Have read this whole thread and I have to agree with you fully!!

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:04

Loud and clear ilovesnooty Smile

ilovesooty · 10/11/2013 18:06

Oh good. Perhaps you could now take the 'n' out of my name.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 10/11/2013 18:06

On a related note, I was invited to a gun fat gypsy 40th and expected to dress 'like a gypsy'. I declined, for obvious reasons, but did see the pictures on Facebook. The birthday girl the bride, big bling dress, and everyone else in an array of trashy barely there outfits n neon. The men were in half open shirts and tracksuits.

I thought this was a best tasteless. The more I thought about it the more racist it became.

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:07

taffleee Really. Smile Well I thought I was the only person in the world with these views according to MN

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:08

'n' removed Smile

Heartbrokenmum73 · 10/11/2013 18:09

Wow - tafflee agrees with mylovelyboy!

That certainly didn't happen on the other thread. Oh no, hang on, yes it did. Hmm.

But no, there's no racism in the world and the photo that the OP wrote about it just a larf, innit, as you can tell from the (majority) responses from people on here.

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:10

Re the gypsy thing. What a strange party to have Confused. Would never of thought of that one 'a gypsy do'.

CatAmongThePigeons · 10/11/2013 18:11

OP YANBU. As others have eloquently said.

Wonderful passive aggressiveness from Mylovelyboy

taffleee · 10/11/2013 18:12

Mylovely I totally agree, come on!! My brother and his mates dressed up as the 'Jackson 5' for his stag night???? Was that racist also???

Catherine Tate and her 'Chav' sketch??? Vicky Pollard??? Come on people, have a sense of humour???

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:12

Heartbroken look at my previous post. I said there is racism about. Massively so. But the word racism can be overused alot an also taken out of context. Also some people are offended when there is nothing to be offended about. Can you read Smile

ConfusedPixie · 10/11/2013 18:13

plate It's fucking ridiculous isn't it? Racist and horrid.

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:13

tafleee that is my point totally. Its hardly saying 'fuck off home' is it.

ConfusedPixie · 10/11/2013 18:13

MyLovely: Can you read? Would you like to tell me that we're all equal after reading my post or are you just going to continue to ignore it?

Heartbrokenmum73 · 10/11/2013 18:15

tafflee

  1. please climb out of mylovelyboysarse - it's sickening.

  2. wrt to your brother and his mates - did they also black up? If so, then yes, it was bloody racist. Don't expect you to get that though.

What Catherine Tate 'chav' sketch? Are you referring to Lauren? At what point was the word 'chav' ever used? You're adding that word in there. Vicky Pollard? Again, when did they ever use the word 'chav'? Shall we try, never?

CatAmongThePigeons · 10/11/2013 18:15

Catherine Tate and the Vicky Pollard sketches didn't involve blacking up. ..

Heartbrokenmum73 · 10/11/2013 18:16

mylovelyboy - yes I can read. I obviously skim-read your last post. And just because you put a smiley face, doesn't make you any less rude.

BakeOLiteGirl · 10/11/2013 18:17

I find blacking up offensive. And if it helps, I got into trouble at work for breaching social networking policy. Nothing racist just a casual comment about a job advert for the company which had spelling mistakes in it. I had an investigatory meeting about it so it does happen.

If I found one of my children's teachers thought this was an acceptable fancy dress costume I would call into question their judgement in a classroom.

taffleee · 10/11/2013 18:19

Heartbroken This is a totally unrelated thread - and of course there is 'racism' in the world - this is NOT an example of racism -

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:20

confusedpixie so if i started a thread saying I think we are not all equal then I would be slated. What he hell you on
Taffleee is right. You are all going totally over the top. I thought of the katherine tate show. what about Little Britain also. Lou and Andy!! ffs lighten up. Everyone is taking it so seriously. If some poor sod was walking down the street and was called paki- or wog-- then fair enough. But in dressing up in a silly costume does not make someone racist.

taffleee · 10/11/2013 18:22

Bake so my brother and his mates going out dressed as the 'Jackson 5' on his stag night was them being 'Racist'????? Really?????

ConfusedPixie · 10/11/2013 18:23

You claimed that black sand whites are all equal so therefore it is okay to be racist. But if there is racism, there is not equality. What are you on?

Mylovelyboy · 10/11/2013 18:23

I am not rude heartbroken just voicing my opinion like you and the rest of the --vipers- MNers

Heartbrokenmum73 · 10/11/2013 18:24

Taffleee - unrelated thread it may be, but your posting on other threads makes interesting reading and sheds light on your leanings. All your 'Britain should stay British' and 'if you move here, you need to live by our rules' - essentially, all the EDL crap you spout.

And if you look through the thread you'll find you're outnumbered (once again) on whether this is racist or not. You're in a minority - how does it feel to be on the side for a change?
