If you are the trumpeter. Was not sure whether to Grin or be Shock.

The Clock struck 11. He had just started the Last Post. Cue muffled, vibrating CLAXON ring tone. In the trumpeters pocket.

Surely, the one person, the one specific time of year you turn the bloody thing off!

(So not accused of drip feeding it was definitely his. We were standing just behind the memorial quite close to the trumpeter. Could hear it quite clearly (though fortunately I think most people would not have noticed it) It continued for the whole of the Last Post. Then he quickly fumbled in his pocket and turned it off. )

Oh dear. I'm sure he just forgot. Poor man must feel mortified.

SantanaLopez · 10/11/2013 12:49

Oh how embarrassing, he must have been praying for the ground to swallow him up!

SauvignonBlanche · 10/11/2013 12:50

Oh no!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/11/2013 12:52

Who the fuck was calling him?? Surely everyone in his phonebook, in his life, know that he had been chosen to play the Last Post.

We couldn't hear it on telly though.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 10/11/2013 12:52

*knew

FishfingersAreOK · 10/11/2013 12:56

I did feel for him - and yes, like you Hearts I did think who the hell would call him at 5 seconds past bloody 11!

It was our local parade in the town square - so def not televised hoping not as then the world would have seen DS poking around the ground with a stick, picking moss of the wall and being fidgety and FishFingerDog doing inappropriately timed Bisto Dog impressions as the local cafe wafted out gorgeous baconny smells

And I was also very impressed with him. Apart from a teeny stumble as it first started to ring he then carried on playing (with a vibrating pocket)

I hope someone wasn't having a joke at his expense.

HappyJustToBe · 10/11/2013 13:04

Maybe he had put "playing the Last Post" in the calendar on his phone and it was a reminder going off? Not the sort of thing I would do, no siree
