To be irritated at car boot lady trying to sell ds a toy gun? And calling him a pansy?

Ds is 4. I took him to a car boot this morning because he was up at 6am (still set to British summer time).
Ds took his pocket money and decided he wanted to buy a stuffed toy. Found one he wanted and the lady was all 'wouldn't you rather have this lovely gun?'
Now I'm not anti toy gun, we have space plasters and stuff at home but they don't look like real guns. This one did.
Ds said he wanted the soft toy and she said 'but you're a boy don't be a pansy!'

I should have said 'did you mean to be so rude?' But instead just dragged ds away.

Aibu to think mind your own business!

YANBU, no-one should be pressurised into buying anything they don't want, then being insulted for not wanting it!

justaquickone · 10/11/2013 11:36

Shock If im honest i think i would of lamped her

she was beyond rude , she insulted your Ds !

JinglingRexManningDay · 10/11/2013 11:37

What a cunt. I would've said something.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 10/11/2013 11:39

YANBU.

MrsBungleScare · 10/11/2013 11:39

I would definitely have said something to her! Yanbu.

reelingintheyears · 10/11/2013 11:43

I'd have been very pissed off at her calling him a pansy, I would have called her something a lot more choice.

NoelOfLorst · 10/11/2013 11:44

I would have turned the bitches trestle table over and she'd have been wearing the gun as an interesting piece of colon jewelry.

Well not really, but I'd have said something. Pansy indeed!

Gobshite.

fuzzpig · 10/11/2013 11:45

Ugh YANBU

Thatisall · 10/11/2013 11:45

What a bitch, how dare she?! To be fair you probably did the right thing. Ds probably didn't know what pansy meant and a scene would have made him feel more uncomfortable

poopinthebin · 10/11/2013 11:46

YANBU to feel the way you feel, but you are being a bit U not to have said anything when a woman speaks to your child like that?!?!

slothlike · 10/11/2013 11:47

This sort of stupid sexist attitude enrages me. I hate to think what she'd have thought if she'd seen my 3yo ds walking down the street the other day clutching his stuffed dog, which was wrapped up in a blanket, and pretending it was a baby. She was definitely BU. I would have said something as well.

Mittensonkittens · 10/11/2013 11:48

I was a bit taken aback - you know when you can't quite believe how rude someone has been?

I briefly considered going back later with one of my retorts but thought I'd look like a lunatic!

Sexist, homophobic, gun-loving, child-bullying adult? Ooh, I'd say YWNBU, & she was lucky not to end up having to surgically remove said gun!

BrandiBroke · 10/11/2013 12:33

That's horrid. None of her business what your child plays with and totally out of order to call him names for his toy choice.

I went to a local evening event the other day where there was a cart with loads of light up things for sale. There were swords and bubble guns etc but also wands and butterflies. I saw one woman come away from the stall with 2 light up butterflies for 2 little boys who were with her - so probably her own sons but if not, definitely connected to her in some way. As she handed them to the boys (who were about 4 and 5) she said 'here's your butterflies, you poofters!'

Tikkamasala · 10/11/2013 12:37

Wow, she sounds a real treat Hmm I would have found it hard to bite my tongue! Of course your ds can have a stuffed animal if that's what he prefers to a gun (good choice IMO) and what business is it of hers!

MrsNormanBates · 10/11/2013 12:46

I would've kicked off at this woman had she spoke to my child this way.

VisualCharades · 10/11/2013 13:15

I would have turned the bitches trestle table over haha brilliant!

Heartbrokenmum73 · 10/11/2013 13:18

There was a Dad at my dc's old school who had three dc - two girls and a boy, who was the youngest.

We were talking the one day and he said that his girlfriend was 'turning his son into a poof by cuddling him when he hurts himself' - his son was 8 months old!

What is wrong with some people?

Cataline · 10/11/2013 13:28

The cheeky fuck! Well done for not shoving said gun up her arse!

lljkk · 10/11/2013 13:28

I wouldn't get unhappy over that, I'd be bemused & pointedly encourage him to choose soft toy.
