Just posted on Facebook by a poet friend of mine

The whistles could be heard
Along the trenches below
The young men weren't ready
But they had to go
Some held photos
Of loved ones back home
They charged together
Yet died alone
The bulkets n bombs
rang loud in their heads
Yet forward they ran
Running over the dead
A war against tyranny and for freedom they fought
A price was to be paid
Yet could never be bought
But their actions
Should be remembered
Even tho with regret
By wearing The Poppy
LEST WE FORGET

By Billy Isherwood

Love this poem......it's been in his head several days and this morning was finally written down.

I don't think it's hunting posters. If you look at a couple of threads that the 2 posters have been on, they did get a bit heated. Ok - they got personal and there were loads of deletions.

It's natural that it could spill over. That said - Geckos just does not like war and thinks that the world would be better without the military. That does not make her a terrorist. Confused

I'm guessing she also thinks that our foreign policy interventions makes us a target. Which it does.

Mignonette · 11/11/2013 10:14

I would never hunt a Gecko. My son has two as pets. Grin

Bowlersarm · 11/11/2013 10:16

I see Geckos is weaving her destructive wayagain. Nice one Geckos.

GoshAnneGorilla · 11/11/2013 10:17

Mig - No way did you show this thread to colleagues. If I had shown a thread with someone mouthing off on a forum, to my colleagues, they would laugh in my face and tell me to get a grip.

You need to get some perspective. These are words on a forum, you have no idea whatsoever if someone is who they say they are, or how they come across in real life.

Please do not claim your "professional experience" gives you any great insight, that's nonsense and I find people who make great claims about their professional experience via the medium of the internet to be a huge worry. You're not the only HCP on here, you know.

I understand people do not like Gecko's posts, nor her style of posting. Fine. Either do not engage, challenge or report to MN as you wish. She is not the first, nor will she be the last poster to behave in such a manner.

DullDebbie · 11/11/2013 10:22

Migs,

I'm afraid you do appear to be quite obsessive. Why is it so important to you that you feel it necessary to show Gecko's comments to three of your SW friends? Do you really think Gecko is bothered about what they said in return? To all those that harp on about Gecko saying she didn't want the UK defended, I must of missed that bit. Now then, I do not consider myself to be as articulate as most on here, however, it is my understanding that Gecko admits that we need to retain our forces in the event of an invasion. However, given that we haven't been invaded for a while, i'm guessing Gecko's argument is, why go around looking for trouble, or looking for countries for us to invade.

I have read on quite a few other threads a number of posts by people off this site stating how our armed forces are out in Iraq and Afghanistan defending us and our freedoms. Prior to 9/11 I do not recall us being at risk from these countries. Could someone please tell me why I should be grateful to our armed forces fighting in these two countries?

fromparistoberlin · 11/11/2013 10:31

I dont think this will change their minds

That said, I mainly wear the poppy for the 10000s and 100000s of boys and men who had no choice during WW1 and WW2

That could read like I dont respect the armed forces, and of course I do

But so many boys and men had no fucking choice whatsoever about enlisting, and they died horribly

Mignonette · 11/11/2013 10:31

I did email the posts and I am afraid they did not laugh. They are never just words on a forum. Yes i know there are plenty of HCP's on here. I never claimed any great insight. An awareness of the codes of conduct and UPR is no great insight. it is bog standard stuff. Hardly a great professional claim.

My points were directed towards the disrespectful and unempathetic behaviour by gecko towards many other posters across many threads over a great deal of time-as evidenced by the multiple deletions she has incurred over a period.

Geckos48 · 11/11/2013 10:32

I think this all stems from the fact that I do not support troops, I know that is a fairly extreme opinion but I cannot see how it is possible to be anti-war but pro-soldier

I believe that our foreign policy and the actions of our armies abroad lead to a decrease in our national security not an increase.

So I cannot respect someone who has died or become injured in such conflicts any more than I would respect someone who had died from being hit by a bus.

Not that I don't respect them, I just don't respect them any more than I would anyone else.

I also disagree fundamentally with the charity 'help for heroes' as it continues this idea of soldiers, regardless of actions, being heroes.

I think that war makes people do shitty things and act in ways they wouldn't usually, I think that it takes a certain type of person to CHOOSE to put themselves in a situation where they are witnessing, being an accomplice to or committing murder whether on a face to face level or behind the controls of a bomb.

marzipanned · 11/11/2013 10:38

Wow. I haven't read the other thread but nowhere on this one has Gecko "bashed" the armed forces. As pointed out upthread, it is those who wish Britain would not seek conflict who are the true supporters of the armed forces, because we don't want to send them to die at worst and suffer trauma at best.

Geckos48 · 11/11/2013 10:39

Can I also add that 9/11 was not proven to be caused by anybody in particular, given the farce that is world trade it could well have been anyone from a number of countries.

I think that it was used, as are most disasters, to be as useful as possible to the governments responsible and to get the best political aim, which at that point was public sympathy for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

GoshAnneGorilla · 11/11/2013 10:39

Mig - did they honestly not have any work to do? (P.S, I hope one of the uber-right wing MNers aren't reading this, it'll give them fuel for their endless complaints that we're underworked in the public sector)

So they've read the posts on a forum. Now what?

What great professional powers will they enact against an anonymous poster on the internet?

Or is it so you can say to, and I repeat, an anonymous poster on the internet "I've told my friends on you".

You sound ridiculous.

"They are never just words on a forum."

What are they then?

Gecko's posts are already moderated by Mumsnet on request. They haven't felt the need to take anything further. Gecko hasn't said anything illegal.

You have no proof that Gecko is studying Social Work, nor do you have any way of contacting her course tutors if you were that concerned.

So what else are you hoping to do about someone's words on an internet forum?

marzipanned · 11/11/2013 10:40

x-post.

Mignonette · 11/11/2013 10:42

Not on a Sunday- they weren't on call and students are not in lectures on a Sunday.

They wouldn'r enact anything other than Hmm that such opinions would be expressed bearing in mind the professional code of conduct and mind set required.

If it is all words there'd be no need for libel laws would there?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 11/11/2013 10:43

strange how some posters seem to raise a shit storm wherever they go.....

Geckos48 · 11/11/2013 10:43

I would really prefer this conversation got back to the matter at hand, I for one refuse to indulge in what my career is/was/might be and instead talk about the thread topic.

Bowlersarm · 11/11/2013 10:44

I'm fairly certain Geckos has said she was training to be/is a social worker.

Mig you need to leave it. Geckos is feeling more superior by the minute, the more you post. Hide the thread.

OrlandoWoolf · 11/11/2013 10:44

What opinions has she expressed that are unprofessional?

OrlandoWoolf · 11/11/2013 10:46

You should look at a teachers or soldiers website to see unprofessional opinions and views.

DullDebbie · 11/11/2013 10:47

If it is all words there'd be no need for libel laws would there?

Migs, oh dear, I really do think you should stop digging that hole.

WilsonFrickett · 11/11/2013 10:47

None on this thread Orlando. Apparently there is more than one thread floating about but imo bringing business from one thread to another is bad chat. MNHQ seem to agree as they have deleted some posts.

Geckos48 · 11/11/2013 10:49

You're welcome to read any other threads I have posted on, they are there for all to see.

GoshAnneGorilla · 11/11/2013 10:50

Mig - But, AFAIK, Gecko's posts haven't broken any laws and MN are extremely hot on tackling any potentially libelous posts.

So yes, Gecko's posts are still just words. Words you don't like, but words all the same.

Your reactions remain excessive and trying to put some kind of professional slant on them is bizarre.
