AIBU if you have a two year in nappies and they do a stinking poo on the bus do you get off?

Just wondering as this happened yesterday.

A mum got on with a toddler about 20-24 months old ,who did the poo face and burst into tears (poor wee girl) however the smell was awful.

We got off the bus early (because of the smell) but the person with me thought IWBU to ask us to leave the bus and the mum should have been the one to leave.

My point was it was easier for us to get off as she had a two year old. His argument was if he had trodden in dog muck and was stinking out the bus he would expect a passengers to ask him to leave

He is being unreaseonable isn't he!

poor woman was probably mortified but what could she do? (besides get off, which may have been very inconvenient) what if she was on her way to an appointment, or there was not another bus for an hour. some peoples BO is worse than a nappy IMO!

I wouldn't expect the mum to have gotten off the bus just because her kid had pooped. The child might have been poorly and just desperate to get home.

Opalite · 08/11/2013 19:32

Yes he's being unreasonable and plain ridiculous

BerstieSpotts · 08/11/2013 19:32

Of course! What's the mum supposed to do, get off and change the child in the middle of the street? Surely she'd have to stay on until the bus got to either her house, or a shopping centre or somewhere else with baby changing.

notallytuts · 08/11/2013 19:32

YANBU

The unfortunate thing about public transport is that you have to deal with it being public. I wouldn't expect a mother to get off the bus if her child did a poo - I guess it depends where the bus was and how often they run but most places I get the bus you'd be changing the nappy at the side of a busy road and then wait half an hour for the next one!

complexnumber · 08/11/2013 19:33

You got off a bus 'cos a 2 year old had a poo?

Crikey! That must have been a hell of a nappy filler.

teacherandguideleader · 08/11/2013 19:33

As someone who has no children I would not have expected them to get off. What would they do with the child? Surely the best option is to get to where they are going ASAP to relieve the child of their discomfort.

Objection · 08/11/2013 19:33

There are worse things on the bus than the smell of poo! What about those people who insist on sitting right next to you, two inches from your face when the bus is completely empty.
I'll take poo over that any day

AHardDaysWrite · 08/11/2013 19:33

I wouldn't get off if it was my toddler. Where was she going to change him? Unless the bus is near a shopping centre, it's unlikely to be near any changing facilities. She's paid for the full journey, and who knows how long she'd be waiting for another bus.

It's a risk you take with public transport. You can get stuck next to pissheads, stinky kebabs, loud music or smelly toddlers. Nothing to be done except get a car if you don't like it.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 08/11/2013 19:34

HIBU, of course.

Donkeyok · 08/11/2013 19:34

At least she didn't change the nappy infront of you all

TheDoctrineOfWho · 08/11/2013 19:35

If he'd trodden in dog muck, he could have hopped off, wiped his shoe on some grass and hopped back on at any bus stop. Nappy change? Not so much.

pigletmania · 08/11/2013 19:36

Get off Noway idiot! Just open the windows. What is te mum supposed to do once she gets off? Best pace is to carry on home and deal with it there

Sleepyfergus · 08/11/2013 19:36

Jeez, was the smell so bad you had to get off? You poor delicate little flower.

I know baby/toddler poo can be bad, but not bad enough to get off early!

Oh, and your friend WBU.

YesterdayI · 08/11/2013 19:37

Oh dear, what an unpleasant situation. I can't stand the smell of dirty nappies they are revolting some are a LOT worse than others but I don't think you could ask a mum to get off a bus.

I'd stick my head out the window.

specialsubject · 08/11/2013 19:38

the child was wearing a nappy. I'm afraid that small children do fill their nappies at short notice. Shit happens, and this is what it means.

be grateful you didn't have to change it!

cheeseandcrackers · 08/11/2013 19:39

Completely unreasonable to expect the mum to get off the bus. What would she have done once she got off? You can't just change a toddler's nappy on the pavement. It might be a nuissance but a smelly nappy doesn't actually hurt anyone.

Mylovelyboy · 08/11/2013 19:39

'did the poo face' cant stop laughing Grin

KerwhizzedMyself · 08/11/2013 19:39

I wouldn't take my toddler off the bus either. If someone can't handle the smells that come with public transport that's their problem. I'm going to find you both and fart in your face on the bus.
