YABU

I would be gutted to get an almost-empty stocking!

If you want the tickets in there, put them right at the bottom and fill the rest with bath stuff/nail varnish/diary/sweets/tat.

wineoclocktimeyet · 08/11/2013 13:11

I can hear the squeeeeeel now!

CocacolaMum · 08/11/2013 13:11

do you mean absolutely no other gifts?

iheartdusty · 08/11/2013 13:12

yes, without any doubt.

even if money is very tight, she is still too young at 8 y/o to feel that she has nothing fun to open at all.

look on the bargain threads, you could fill her stocking with bits and pieces for under £10, including plenty of stuff you would buy anyway.

Floralnomad · 08/11/2013 13:12

YABU .

Bettercallsaul1 · 08/11/2013 13:14

Yes, buy lots of cheap stuff (that she won't know is cheap!) Girls of that age love nice toiletries - what about the Boots 3 for 2 Christmas offers?

Isildur · 08/11/2013 13:15

Well, it does seem a bit of an odd way to go about things.

If you're going to have a stocking, it makes sense to put a few bits into it.

TurnOffTheTv · 08/11/2013 13:15

I know the tickets are a great present but that's really mean.

NynaevesSister · 08/11/2013 13:17

I would throw in some things she can play with on Christmas Day, then wrap up the tickets in a series of ever bigger wrapped boxes and put that under the tree. If this is a surprise for her and she is a big fan she will die of happiness. She won't care what else you got her.

I would be tempted to do away with the stocking and make her stocking presents something 1D related inside each box/layer she opens. She will begin to suspect but won't quite believe it and then the anticipation will really build up!

ThePigOfHappiness · 08/11/2013 13:17

Awwww... I'd fill it up with a few other bits. Seems mean to have nothing to open. It's Christmas after all!

SeaSickSal · 08/11/2013 13:19

I actually think that's a really nice idea. She'll be all puzzled and wonder why it's empty then suddenly realize that it's because the thing she wants most is in there.

Bettercallsaul1 · 08/11/2013 13:20

Sparkly pens/pencils /pencil case for school? Special offers at Claire's Accessories - hair bands, bracelets etc. 8-year-olds need a bit of sparkle at Christmas!

monkeyfacegrace · 08/11/2013 13:22

Mean, mean, mean.

Every little girl needs a stocking of things to open.

For tickets, can i suggest make your own crackers for christmas dinner? Put them in hers. Much more exciting, and she will think all the presents have finished by then Smile

Isildur · 08/11/2013 13:23

I kind of see that SeaSickSal, but at 8, concert tickets for some future date are not very 'Christmassy' for most children.

Beccagain · 08/11/2013 13:24

You are a lovely lovely mummy but yes, I think you should fill it up with a load of other crap inexpensive little bits and pieces and see her face when she gets to the tickets!

spidersolitare · 08/11/2013 13:25

Sorry....she's not 8 she's 10!

She has told methat she doesn't belive any material re cos oneof her friends caught their parents on the hall with the stocking

Thank you for this! I am so stealing this idea!

I've bought df tickets to see Derren Brown live (his Idol) and I've been puzzling what to do with them...they're going in his cracker now Grin

Beccagain · 08/11/2013 13:26

Mean, mean, mean

Hardly, have you seen the price of the tickets? I cannot tell you how relieved I was when my DC forbade me from buying 1D tickets for my 7 year old DGD!

But I love your crackers idea Monkey Grin

SeaSickSal · 08/11/2013 13:27

They bloody are if it's one direction. I am assuming that the op will have other presents for her under the tree.

spidersolitare · 08/11/2013 13:27

Tickers have wiped me out

shallweshop · 08/11/2013 13:31

I think my DD who is just 9 would be fairly gutted if I did that. Why not go to your local pound shop and get some bits from there?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 08/11/2013 13:34

My 11yo niece would be bowled over, well, not sure how she feels about One Direction (whoever they are!) but if it was Taylor keep wanting to say Dayne Swift she'd squeeeeeeeee!

squeakytoy · 08/11/2013 13:35

I would get stuff from the pound shop.. they have plenty of 1D tat that she will probably love anyway.

CoffeeTea103 · 08/11/2013 13:36

That's cruel.Blush
There are lots of deals and bargains around!!

Prozacbear · 08/11/2013 13:36

I think that would be an amazing present!

Assuming she is as crazy about One Direction as most pre-pubescent girls (otherwise you wouldn't be remortgaging your house for the tickets, ha-ha) - this is the perfect stocking filler.

Also, this is a present that will actually mean something to her - it's a good lesson that when you get something that great, you don't need the tat.

Think some people might be missing the point of the importance of One Direction to girls of this age...
