to be fuming that this company thought a text to cancel was appropriate

My dad was doing us a massive favour and hiring a van and driving several hundred miles to pick up some flooring for us.

This was all arranged with the company we are buying it from on Thursday.

My Dad picked up the van at 7.30 this morning. Filled it with a full tank of fuel and set off. 9am we get a text saying the flooring is not ready and not to come. Except we didn't see the text until 10.

AIBU to think this is totally unacceptable, totally unprofessional and be absolutely beyond fuming.

They must have known last night it wasn't ready. They should have phoned until they actually spoke to us so they knew we had git the message.

Aaaaaaagh, I'm so fed up as this is the 3rd lot of people that have let me down this week!!!!

Yadnbu
Is there any way you can cancel the order and go elsewhere??

StealthPolarBear · 03/11/2013 13:58

yes that is utterly crap

Justforlaughs · 03/11/2013 13:59

YANBU, I would want a full refund plus a refund for the van hire and petrol.
On the bright side, these things come in 3's Grin

We've left a message saying we want to cancel the order and expect them to pay for the van and fuel.

Only problem is that they were the cheapest we had found and we've already been waiting for several weeks for it, so more delay.

I'm soon angry.

Of course it is unreasonable, they should be presented with the cost of the van hire, the petrol and an invoice for your dad's time (hours time minimum wage with Sunday levy of time and a half). When the order is in, then they should delivery to you free of charge too.

Is this a large store? Because their Head Office should be made aware too.

trixymalixy · 03/11/2013 14:01

I thought my luck had changed yesterday as I got a cheque for £600 compensation from the last company that let me down and won a coffee maker in a raffle last night, but clearly not!

It's not a large store.

I know I'm not being unreasonable, just so angry I needed somewhere to vent.

So the reason given was the her DH was taken into hospital on Satirday night. Doesn't explain why the order still wasn't ready to pick up on Monday though when we were told it was ready on Thursday. My feeling is the hospital is not true.

They said it was unavoidable so not prepared to give us any money off our order, so we have cancelled it. They have strung us along for weeks about it, which was why we were collecting it, so not just cancelled because of the collection debacle.

Any ideas how to try to recover the money we are out of pocket for?

Totally unprofessional. I really dont get this texting thing..I have a mobile phone but its not clasped in my hand 24/7 and I barely look at it in the mornings. I would probably have seen that message later than 10am! & why didnt they call as opposed to texting? I think they knew theyd messed up, and the texting was a cop out.

Id keep that text and take them to the small claims court, why should they get away with such rotten customer service. You're out of pocket due to their incompetency - I wouldnt let them get away with it. Perhaps when they receive the small claims notification theyll see sense, and not let things go further, as I think theyd lose on this one. At the very least you can claim the cost of van hire, petrol, and add some more on for loss/waste of time and inconvenience too.

trixymalixy · 05/11/2013 21:21

It was definitely a cop out. She is clearly too chicken to phone is as she texted saying she couldn't phone as she was driving Hmm.

That was to say that her husband said they would not be compensating us for our out of pocket expenses.

I'll wait until they refund us the money then I will be making a plan of attack.

call their bluff - tell them they will be hearing from your solicitor, what they did was outrageous and any company worth anything would be bending over backwards to be apologetic and keep your custom and goodwill.

trixymalixy · 05/11/2013 21:57

They will be hearing from my solicitor, he's my cousin Grin.

What kind of flooring? My dh gets stunning oak flooring for jobs, delivered and at a great price. I could get the details?

trixymalixy · 05/11/2013 22:06

Reclaimed boards. My DH is getting it in the neck as I wanted to replace just the boards that had to be taken up for damp proofing , but he decided to replace the whole lot......
