I'm going to visit 22 year old DD in mid November, Friday to Sunday. She's working down there for a few months, but doesn't know the area well.

Is there actually anything to do in Bournemouth at this time of year?

needsa we had Sunday lunch in The Kings Head last week, it was delicious and on a par with The Ship in Xchurch. Second the walk through the saltpans, we tend to park up at Keyhaven and walk from there into town, have lunch, then walk back.

No-one's mentioned the car ferry over from Sandbanks yet. Once you've crossed, is a lovely way to head over to Corfe and take a steam train to Swanage and back.

Oh I love doing that signora have done that many many times. I also love Swanage . There are some lovely little shops there. Corfe is great with the cobbled streets and small doorways. There is also a pub there with a glass floor !
Another lovely place for a day out is Lulworth Cove. Not so good in the rain though .
Great to see so many mnetters In my area.

My tip for castlepoint is park underneath Sainsbury's it's still part of the original building so not likely to fall down Wink

reelingintheyears · 21/11/2013 19:41

I was there this afternoon, Castlepoint that is, what a boring place it is too.
I always park on the top, don't know why but underneath just looks so grim.
Did you see that councillor last week in the Echo, who parked in the disabled bays then said that no one who was disabled would want to go shopping anyway.
Oh, and that there were too many disabled bays.!

Bournemouth have just got permission to build a zipline from the end of the pier onto the beach!

If I were you, I would go to the Winchester Christmas market and Ice Rink. Really magical.

reelingintheyears · 21/11/2013 20:30

All these Bournemouth MNetters!

Pantah630 · 22/11/2013 07:35

Geckos is the Winchester market a proper one, or full of tat like the Bmth one? Or was that a slip of auto correct and you meant Winter Christmas market in the square? Grin

Agree Castlepoint is soulless, it's also sucked the life blood from the town centre.

Geckos48 · 22/11/2013 08:43

The Winchester Christmas market is that which all other Christmas markets are judged against

the ice rink has the cathedral as a back drop, its like ice skating in the olden days.

Its bloody magical I tell yee!

Fantastic suggestions here! Makes me want to move back!!

I second jazzys cafe at sandbanks, the hot chocolates are amazing!! And sandbanks beach is lovely for a winter walk.

Sixty million postcards is really quirky, and they serve amazing fish finger sandwich and chips! And a fruit beer which is yummy.

I love the German market, there's nothing better than having a nice gluhwein after a days christmas shopping!

Castlepoint is pretty dull, I used to only go there for convience. Shopping is much better in Bournemouth centre.

Westbourne has some sweet shops and cafes, and is small so would only take a couple of hours for a wander.

Pantah630 · 22/11/2013 12:18

That's me off to Winchester next month then, nearer than Bath and Germany Grin
