Stabby chic

Shabby chic makes me stabby. Not the style so much (well quite a bit), but the phrase.
Watched some wedding programme where 2 annoying people from Geordie Shore got to plan a couples wedding. All they wanted was 'shabby chic'
this and 'shabby chic' that. AAAARGHH. Aibu?

Yadnbu!! It seems to be code for buying cheap, crap furniture and painting it craply with white paint.

It is a very over used term now.

Cremolafoam · 30/10/2013 21:37

Did they say "light and airy" at any stage too?AngryGrin

deepfriedsage · 30/10/2013 21:37

I think along with Kath kidson, it has had its day.

FetchezLaVache · 30/10/2013 21:38

YANBU. I have hidden people on FB for their tediously frequent updates informing me that they have pinned to a board on Pinterest, inevitably accompanied by a picture of a tatty old dresser painted cream & baby blue and used to store/display artfully rolled-up towels.

killpeppa · 30/10/2013 21:39

I watched that too!

I wanted to hit that couple! shabby chic this, shabby chic that, it's not her style because its not shabby chic- blah blah blah
I like it but it's not like I can't like anything else. think they were being abit 'try hard'

DevilsRoulette · 30/10/2013 21:40

shabby chic

That's wankspeak for pile of shit, is it not?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/10/2013 21:42

I weep for all the beautiful, simple pieces of wooden furniture that have been destroyed with Annie Sloan paint and fake 'distressing'

carvedpumpkin · 30/10/2013 21:42

this sounds like just the sort of crap tv I love! what was the programme? can't believe I missed it. Oh but yanbu Smile

happydaze77 · 30/10/2013 21:43

Don't forget 'boho' stabby stab stab

SinisterSal · 30/10/2013 21:43

If shabby chic has had it's day what's next?

Is it mid century modern?

progressing through the decades

deepfriedsage · 30/10/2013 21:46

Gplan

LegoLady95 · 30/10/2013 21:47

Should be renamed 'can't think of my own taste so will piggyback on this load of tat and pretend I am stylish chic'.

Add it onto your ebay listings and you'll make a mint mind - every cloud.

OOooo a new Twigs and Pebbly Shit thread!

Gingham checked stuffed heart things dangling from every protrusion.

Painted wickerwork Anythings.

LegoLady95 · 30/10/2013 21:51

Pumpkin - celebrity wedding planner perhaps? I have no idea why I was watching it, I suppose it was a bit of painful pleasure like tampering with a loose tooth.

Couldn't agree more - it REALLY annoys me.

And it's not shabby chic, it's shabby shit. Well, that's what we call it.

SaucyJack · 30/10/2013 22:47

I yearn for the good old days of period features.
