To not care a jot about the panda?

Just been to visit them at the zoo. As I expected it's asleep. Sleeps 16 hours a day. The male one's ill so can't be on show. So we spend 10 minutes in a room with a video of it actually moving whilst it sleeps in a corner.

Maybe there's a reason it's only in season for 2 days a year? God's trying to tell us something surely? Wink

One horned Rhinos on the other hand are the dog's bollocks. And if you hear one fart you're in for a treat. Fantastic!

Red pandas are no relation to the sleeping ones. The Chinese word for panda means big bear cat.

D you think if I bought and wore that onesie people would let me lie around all day hugging toblerones?

The bloke panda at the zoo is barking mad, he climbs everything but he doesn't know how to get down so he just let's go, keeps breaking stuff in his enclosure.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 22:30

Itsjustafleshwound · 29/10/2013 22:32

It would be rude not to wheel it out - still cracks me up ...

Thesimplethings · 29/10/2013 22:32

We booked, however they still let people in the walk through as they weren't on show.

So booking to see them means nothing.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 22:33

Ha ha - yes, I'm too slow!

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 22:38

Anyone else who's been to Edinburgh zoo think the zebras are the favourites? They have so much field. Just saying.

Bingdweller · 29/10/2013 22:48

We're Edinburgh zoo members, love taking the kids Grin Am rubbish at links, but have you seen the YouTube vid? Google "Tian Tian edinburgh hammock" - it's fab. There's also a really good one of her doing somersaults with a ball.

I have seen the pandas a few times now and their most active time is around 10.30am if anyone is planning a visit soon!

ExitPursuedByABogieMan · 29/10/2013 22:52

Ah the Indian rhino.

scarlettsmummy2 · 29/10/2013 22:55

We are members of Edinburgh zoo. It is ok for something to do with the children, but Belfast zoo far better- they have elephants and giraffes! Edinburgh just seems to have lots of birds and pig like creatures, although their monkeys are very amusing.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 22:57

Bingdweller I saw the video of her and the ball.

I haven't been for years I dont really like it I did see mercedes Polar bear before she died and her fella she seemed happy in her new home bless her

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 22:59

Oh I once saw a poor polar bear who was so miserable. Swaying from side to side Sad

OP posts:
mrsjay · 29/10/2013 23:01

she did that when she came into season apparently and tbh her enclosure was to small her new one was great she had lots of space to wander around she did pace a little but not as much and when she came into season it isn't nice to see though,

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 23:01

Eeek, just googled it was at Edinburgh zoo years ago Glad she had a little while of happiness.

Bingdweller · 29/10/2013 23:05

Poor Mercedes, she moved to much nicer surroundings them promptly died Sad The Patagonian sea lion wasn't nice to see either.

Glad to see the recent improvements and more appropriate enclosures for a lot of their animals. There seems to be a huge drive towards conservation of species. Some things are done very well - koalas, meerkats, Budongo Trail etc. but I hate the big cat enclosures and would love to see them upgraded.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 23:07

God yes to the big cat enclosures being upgraded. I was shocked at those.

But as for the zebras....

OP posts:
RhondaJean · 29/10/2013 23:07

I wouldn't go to Belfast zoo purely because they have elephants and they really aren't suitable for keeping in zoos.

I think with some animals it's a case of better than the alternative re conservation but not them.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 29/10/2013 23:08

I don't mind seeing rescued elephants in zoos as long as they have room.
