To hate Deal or no deal

It's all this crying for each other when they open a box and a big red number is inside. All the stupid delay and build up to open the boxes, all the oh Hun I hope it's a blue (vomit). Then they have all these stupid themes, Halloween this week.

I know don't watch it, I don't usually but MIL is here and she is watching it.

It's bloody ridiculous. It's basically a game of eeny meeny miney mo.

I don't watch it (I'd rather set fire to my eyeballs and try to put it out with lemon juice) but I've seen clips.

From what I understand, the revolting edmunds seems to believe that it is possible to influence in any way, how much is in what box, by having some sort of strategy. Hmm

You pick a number. box is opened.

Krypton factor it ain't.

It's basically a game show for people who are so thick they can't even answer the ridiculously easy questions you get on other game shows nowadays.

YouTheCat · 28/10/2013 19:18

All this 'I chose this box because it's the date of my dead third cousin's birthday' - what utter bollocks.

The ex mil buys into it all. She is thick as a brick.

FriendlyElephant · 28/10/2013 21:57

I quite enjoyed it when it started (although I was about ten). I can't believe it's still on, it's so bloody boring and repetive and pointless. Like watching somebody else play bingo. With a bit of contrived drama thrown in. Meh.

Daddypigsgusset · 28/10/2013 22:45

It's like some weird happy clappy cult headed up by a smarmy charisma free leader.
This made me wheeze and cry and wee a bit ahaha

slothlike · 28/10/2013 23:11

It is a very annoying show. I find the little phrases particularly grating, such as when they tell each other to "think blue" and refer to the "power five" - arrrghhh.

I see more of it than I'd like because MIL always insists on watching it.

AnyBumFuckerPotato · 28/10/2013 23:13

I used to have it on in the background a good few years back, when I used to work from home each afternoon. I would IM my colleague in the office with the updates and gave her character assassinations descriptions of the contestants. Our ideal episode would be on where they ended up with a low blue. We dreamt of a show where the contestant swapped the £250k for a blue.

We hated Noel with a passion the creepy crepey wankstain

Yes we worked hard back in the day!

Ohwhatwitcheryisthis · 28/10/2013 23:24

I can't watch it. him and his stupid cosmic bollox. It makes me go and do housework. Angry

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 29/10/2013 01:24

I hate the way the contestants stalk around the place as if they bloody own it.

MarjorieAntrobus · 29/10/2013 01:39

Upthread, Running said;

I watched it once and it took me ages to get it.

I kept asking, 'but there has to be more to it than that?'

Apparently not.

and it made me Grin. Spot on. It's just a quick game of chance stretched out to fill a programme.

KalevalaForMePlease · 29/10/2013 02:16

It's really strange, because it's a completely different show here in Australia. It's been running for years, really light hearted, takes about half an hour with loads of breaks. No banker, just a computer that puts the number up on the screen. It's good fun. Saw the UK version when I was home and was really surprised at the serious tone. Most Aussie versions of UK stuff are crap, but this is the other way round!

SomethingOnce · 29/10/2013 02:36

It's like some weird happy clappy cult headed up by a smarmy charisma free leader.

Time for a Kool-Aid special, tbh. That I'd watch.

Jackanory1978 · 29/10/2013 03:51

I love it.

It's repeated at 5am & that's what got me through all those newborn nightly feeding sessions.

cupcake78 · 29/10/2013 04:19

I can't stand it! Makes my teeth itch.

Kefybaby · 29/10/2013 04:54

I haaaaate it!

ScoutJemAndBoooooooooooo · 29/10/2013 07:13

I hate it too, cos, after all the hype and lurve and good vibes, what is in the box is what was always in the box - nothing can change that!

ILikeTrains · 29/10/2013 07:20

Horrible format, horrible contestants and horrible presenter. It's the News of the World of game shows iykwim.

pianodoodle · 29/10/2013 07:54

Oh you're definitely not unreasonable Grin

I don't think you'd be put on the show if you indicated that you might weigh up your options on the balance of probability. I've never heard the word odds used once yet!

If I told them I was bringing a magic good vibe stone I might be in with a chance :)

And the part where they play on "to see what would have happened" makes my blood boil! How the hell do they know what they would have opened unless they had to pick the number sequence at the start and not deviate from it?!

I wish they'd also say "wow that was an incredibly greedy and reckless decision" not "how brave of you to play on" Grin

OwlinaTree · 29/10/2013 08:14

I don't like it either. A few years ago we found a deal or no deal quiz book in a charity shop. You just picked a box and it told you what page to go to to see how much you won....

DevilsRoulette · 29/10/2013 08:26

sounds good, Kal.

I think if it was just played as a game of chance, with everyone having fun, and nobody pretending it meant anything, it might even be watchable for a bit of meaningless fun.

As it is, it is cringy. How stupid would you have to be to buy into it?

Lilacroses · 29/10/2013 08:41

I so agree with you. It's randomnly guessing what is in a box.......that is it!!! I once heard the dreadful Noel Edmunds try to explain that it was so popular because it was actually a metaphor for real life.....what????!!!

mrsjay · 29/10/2013 08:51

oh you are SO not unreasonable all this I love you buddy lets hug is just weird just play the game you are not friends you do not love each other maybe noel is giving them lessons in that cosmic ordering he is into, I actually have to leave the room when dh is watching it

mrsjay · 29/10/2013 08:52

and so much pacing why do they have to pace so much Hmm

curlew · 29/10/2013 08:52

I came on to say that Deal gets some really unfair criticism- and so does Margate..........!

YesterdayI · 29/10/2013 09:10

I find it quite watchable and will often turn it on for the second half of the show. The thing that makes it watchable for me is the sums of money involved.
All the woo stuff and added drama is ridiculous but the basic premiss of should I accept a definite Xfor my box or go on and risk it all for more is interesting. The amounts of money are huge for some of the players.

Noel is a little creepy and he often shows a like or dislike for contestants which is probably not very professional. If I was on the show I am pretty sure I would end up telling him to bugger off if he started to try and up the drama. I think I would be the most boring contestant too, I certainly wouldn't have a 'system'

I quite like the fact that they have all sorts of contestants from all sorts of backgrounds. They are very inclusive.

C'mon I can't be the only one who watches it.

DevilsRoulette · 29/10/2013 09:20

a metaphor for real life?
HAHAHA
just when you think that man can't get any more ridiculous.

He is so far up his own arse he's in danger of turning inside out.

There is something - unpleasant about him, Yesterday, I agree. I would not be surprised to find out he is a very nasty person. He's certainly very arrogant.
