Rat/squirrel pee

We had a rat or something of that nature in our attic last winter during the really cold weather. I could hear it gnawing at things and scratching around. DH went up several times, we put traps down but nothing was ever caught/found. This summer it went totally silent and I've not heard a thing since so we assumed whatever was up there decided it was too hot and there wasn't any food.
We took all our Halloween decs down from the attic this evening (again, no sign of anything up there)and the Indian corn had been totally eaten away. AIBU to worry about the rest of the decorations being contaminated with Weil's disease?
I'm thinking of throwing all the decorations and our Christmas ones just in case a rat has peed on them and they are contaminated. DH is laughing at me at this moment but I just wanted peace of mind so thought I'd come on here and ask.

Just disinfect them if you are worried. or run a steam cleaner over them.

Okay, I've got some spray. Good plan!
Will that kill Weil's disease though?

The Leptospira bacteria does not live long in dry conditions but can survive in fresh water up to a month (in salt water the bacteria only survives for a few hours)

That's actually really useful to know as I always worry about these types of things. Thank you Smile
