To want to use credit card with no PIN?

Have posted on money but thought I would have more response here, I am not getting money in until end of next week, and am skint, so thought i would use my credit card to get some supplies to tide us over, but as I've not used it for a while I can't for the life of me remember the PIN, doh! Blush so, my question is do I need a PIN to buy stuff or will my signature suffice? Apparently it will take a week or so for a new PIN (wtf?!) by which time I won't need it and would have starved to death

The only way you could do it is by doing an online order.

BerstieSpotts · 25/10/2013 09:46

No you can't. Since about 2003 the systems have been that you need a pin unless the card doesn't have a chip (e.g. some foreign cards.)

You could try going into the bank to withdraw cash, you'd need another form of ID.

Only works if your CC is with a bank, though.

I had this issue - I blocked myself out of it because I'd forgotten my Pin and I asked if my signature would suffice but they said they can't accept that any more. I think the store was gutted as I was about to spend over £500. It was easily solved though by me just making the same purchase online as they only ask for the account number and card number, no problem. I then rang my Credit Card company and they sent me a Pin Reminder within about 3 days.

Yes, online shopping is the only way to get round this. You could take money out over the bank counter, but check the charges first. If you pay it off as soon as you're paid, it may be cheaper than paying to have your groceries delivered. Either way, it's only a few pounds.

You can ask for one without a pin. Not sure they have to issue you one unless you have a disability that means you can sign but not use a pin.

You can also phone the card company and get them to send you a new pin, will take a few days.

Thanks everyone, bank told me it will take 7 days for new PIN Shock so I guess online shopping is the way to go, not tried it before so could take a while Hmm

Just remembered that my DH did this when going out to buy my 'surprise' engagement ring. He took a card he hadn't used for ages, forgot the PIN, so had to phone to ask if he could take cash out of our savings but he couldn't tell me what it was for.

I still acted surprised when I received my Christmas Eve proposal. And actually, I had convinced myself that's not what he needed the money for, as we hadn't even discussed marriage before that. Sorry, a slightly off topic.

If you're with barclaycard you can find your pin on your online account details.

Just been to branch, they gave me cash over the counter, problem solved thanks everyone Smile
