The 7 children thing seems a bit arbitrary and difficult to enforce! Plus surely they do need to run around & make a noise at some point ....?

Our nursery go to the park every morning too but still don't limit how many DC can be in the garden (and tbh I wouldn't be too impressed with a nursery that did this).

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 21/10/2013 22:36

I would only agree if it was permit holders parking only and only for residence.

The children wouldn't annoy me.

valiumredhead · 21/10/2013 22:37

Where do they let off stream if not in the garden?

I have to say unless I had a child there it would cheese me off unless it was a huge detached house but I'm a real NIMBY Grin

GemmaTeller · 21/10/2013 22:39

Toddlers and childrens playing would not be a problem to me.

Parking over my drive, not being able to see to get off my drive and inconsiderate parking would drive me crazy.

I'm going to say only 6 roadside spaces and a need to turn in the road to exit the nursery IS a big problem, sorry.

HollyGoHeavily · 21/10/2013 22:41

Wouldn't bother me, but then I rather like hearing children playing and am not that uptight about parking issues.

I would however be bothered about a nursery that didn't let children out to play in the garden and let off steam, are you really saying that on the nicest days of the year half the kids would have to stay inside? Seems like a huge compromise to make, I'd fight tooth and nail to avoid that as a clause in your planning permission. YANBU.

OddBoots · 21/10/2013 22:41

I don't think they would think you evil, they probably just feel that the extension of places is beyond what is reasonable for the area and that their lives will be impacted as a result. They may be right, that will be for the planning inspectors to decide.

bundaberg · 21/10/2013 22:42

6 spaces right now... for 14 parents coming in? plus 14 cars trting to turn in the road?

i CAN see why your neighbours would be concerned tbh

totallystuck · 21/10/2013 22:43

We don't just go to the park, we go to all sorts of places! It's normal where we live to restrict the numbers of children that can play in the garden. I thought it was a national thing.

By let of steam, I mean we don't let them run riot, like children in school for example. Of course they play, like we have a mud pie kitchen, water wall and ride on toys etc. They're not running around like headless chickens squawking is what I mean.

Agree with Gemma, parking is a problem

PedlarsSpanner · 21/10/2013 22:45

ummm totallystuck, are you in England, we might make some silly assumptions or mistakes if you are in Wales/Scotland/NI !

bundaberg · 21/10/2013 22:48

holly i think the OP is saying it's 7 at any one time, which isn't unreasonable. it dpoesn't mean that one half never get to go out at all Grin

totallystuck · 21/10/2013 22:49

At least 6 space, typically I'd say there were about 40 within 30 meters, probably more. I really wish I could post a picture, but it would out me, although I'm probably outed anyway.

It would be incredible for all 14 parents to arrive by car all at once though, people collect and drop off at staggered times. Also as we give a discount to non car users/car sharers lots of people do this.

Even if 14 cars did some all at once, not all of them would need to turn in the rd either, it depends where you park. About 50% of current car uses don't need to turn in the road.

I think it would be very odd for me to go on twitter and campaign about enlarging a nursery I know basically nothing about.

I think your neighbours have a point about parking too.

whois · 21/10/2013 22:55

There is a nursery at the back of our flats, our bedroom faces that way. It is highly irritating in the summer when we have the window open at morning drop off "bye bye poppy, say bye bye for daddy, byesie bye poppy-pops" Shut the fuck up! Apart from that it's not annoying. If I was home during the day and had other windows/balcony/garden facing that way I think it would be annoying.

GemmaTeller · 21/10/2013 23:02

whois Grin

LimitedEditionLady · 21/10/2013 23:03

All i can think is parents parking could be annoying at drop off but otherwise unless its 24/7 nursery then itll be vacant after six and at weekends so wouldnt give a hoot.

cozietoesie · 21/10/2013 23:14

I have one next to me. Parking is an issue - but not so much the parking of parents (who are just dropping off) but parking of nursery staff throughout the day, delivery lorries, maintenance people etc etc. The parents are the least of it.

On the up side, the place is occupied during the day which is good against burglary for all the houses nearby and all goes quieter at about 17.30 and at weekends.

I don't mind it. I'd far rather have that than some other premises I could think of.

totallystuck · 21/10/2013 23:25

Staff have their own parking - so that makes that a bit easier. Here is the street imageshack.us/scaled/thumb/546/tfj9.png

Seems like a bit of a mixed bag of reactions really, I guess WABU! Shame so many mums are going to have to give up work now though Sad

Broody other than that wouldn't bother me at all.

Viviennemary · 21/10/2013 23:30

I could see why neighbours might object. If it is turning a residential property into a business then planning permission will of course be needed. TBH I wouldn't be that happy if it happened in my road.

MMcanny · 21/10/2013 23:32

I wouldn't like such a commercial business on my residential street TBH. Can't you find new premises? An industrial estate? Aren't there loads of empty shops on high streets these days?

totallystuck · 21/10/2013 23:35

nope no empty places at all and I've looked at 38 places. We found one but the council wont let us use it. We're not the right type of community facility sadly.

superiorcat that made me laugh!

Bit odd to say that so many mums will have to give up work.

totallystuck · 21/10/2013 23:47

well nearly half of them will as there are no spaces anywhere decent near us, hopefully the council will sort something out though.
