For a film crew to block my front door?!

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 14:49

I live in a small town and there is currently a blockbuster film being filmed right outside my front door. Its a period setting so they have done loads of set decoration all around, including blocking up some windows etc.

Yesterday my dp came home (I wasn't in) and our front door had a door shaped block wedged in front. He grabbed a crew or security member who moved it and he told them it can't be there as I am due to go into labour any day (I'm 39 weeks) and it is our only exit/entrance so for fire and health and safety reasons it can't be there, or we at least need to know when!

Earlier on he popped in from work, and it was there again. He repeated the same speech from yesterday and they moved it, and told him when its up it will only be for 2 mins max.

Its up there again, and has been for nearly 45 minutes!!! I have rang and left a voicemail for the assistant location manager (his number was put on a info leaflet through our door a week ago).

Essentially I'm trapped in my house, and yes I could push it out with some force but that's not really fair on me is it?!

Its actually starting to make me feel quite panicky now.

AIBU?! Or what should I do?!

Who would describe 'Far From The Madding Crowd' a blockbuster, anyway? Hmm

Reprint · 23/10/2013 14:55

This seems to have gone completely OTT.
I hope they offer you a nice meal out (hah) as compensation, OP, and that you get the chance to fit it in before your new little one arrives.

Chill out, people.

teresa2003 · 23/10/2013 14:56

I'm not letting them get away with it, I too hate our money grabbing compo culture but in this situation I think I am more than entitled to do so. They have completely taken the piss with me, and they now know that i have them at a disadvantage as I'm sure they don't want their film blackened by any form of media, local or not

OMG. That does so sound all about the money.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 14:56

LaGuardia I said exactly the same thing when we first got the letter which describes it as that informing us when filming was etc.

Let's hope the OP is in hospital with her lovely little baby and is oblivious to the nonsense that's appeared on here in the last few hours.

Loving the high and mighty attitudes about the compo, hilarious!

womma · 23/10/2013 15:00

Oh you're still here!

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 15:03

Nope, I've seen it all womma wish I was having my baby though! But no such luck Sad

Thanks to everyone who has defended and supported me Thanks

We are fuming!! I have spoken to a girl from the location team and her manager and told them they are not to block our door at all without giving us some sort of compensation

Quote from an earlier post of yours OP Hmm

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 15:04

Some sort of compensation......did I mention money?!

OP posts:
Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 15:06

It was then resolved after my conversation with her and her manager, and we received chocolate and wine which I saw as compensation and was happy with.

Its only now this paper thing has come up that the film company have mentioned monetary compensation.

The baby will come soon. Hope you're putting your feet up and taking it easy. Good luck with your meeting with the film folks.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 23/10/2013 15:11

I have just read this thread for the first time and I am bloody staggered that the OP is being given a hard time! Shock

I'd heard that some posters on aibu will argue black is white but bloody hell! Op came here for a moan.

I'm glad it's over and I hope you are enjoying your baby soon. Have Brew and Cake and enjoy whatever feet up time you have left now.

teresa2003 · 23/10/2013 15:15

No not directly LJ and you didn't mention giving you warning next time either or simply not doing it again , just the compo !

YouTheCat · 23/10/2013 15:16

Yes she did.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 15:18

I agree I wasn't very clear at that point of the thread (as I'm sure you can imagine I was rather wired at the time) but I have said it since.

Thanks invisibleman Im currently tucked up watching tv in bed....only getting out for food and bathroom breaks Grin

In that particular instance being quoted above (which preceded her mentioning she wanted warning) no she did not mention it.

Here it is again:

We are fuming!! I have spoken to a girl from the location team and her manager and told them they are not to block our door at all without giving us some sort of compensation

I also think that OPs priorities were skewed. I would prefer it go in the papers to prevent them endangering any other family in this way and drawing attention to their behaviour from the HSE who could suitably slap their wrists/fine them etc. as a future deterrent/change of policy.
Rather than receive some sort of compensation from them to keep quiet about it.

But that's just me.

Also for the record l did not say OP endangered her unborn child , only that the film crew did. I could not get over , like many other posters that this and her being imprisoned in her own house was not her main and only battle to be concerned with winning, never mind what chocs, flowers, nice words, compensation might be on the table. Thank you to poster already pointed that out on my behalf.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 15:50

Of course it was my main concern!!!! Read my OP, that was all I was concerned about!

aderynlas · 23/10/2013 16:34

Put your feet up op, nice cup of tea and very best wishes for the arrival of your little one.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 16:38

Thankyou aderynlas

We had a film crew here many years ago. They took ages setting up a shot, which is when my ds thought it would look so much better if his bright blue teddy was suddenly pushed into view. Many years ago but still makes me blush.

jellyboatsandpirates · 23/10/2013 16:56

I'm glad it's all worked out for you, and hope you're now sat resting with a nice cup of tea and your feet up.
Please don't just let them off though. Even AFTER you said "don't do it again" you said that they said "We've finished filming in your area, so more than likely won't be doing it again."
WTAF? They still didn't get it, did they?! If they had had to have come back to finish a shot, they'd in more likelihood have done it again.
Not getting at you, can't you see? Just you do seem a bit complacent about what they have actually put you through.
What if they did it again to another family who might not be so lucky next time?

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 17:06

Another update.....

This morning I woke up about 6am, thought a noise had woken me but didn't think too much of it as living in the town centre there are noises all around.

Apparently at that time the films security company were banging on all doors trying to get into the pub as they had left thier radios in there. My sil who lives in the flat around the back of the pub answered her door at 6.15 and they said they had banged on every door including ours.

Who in thier right mind bangs on someone's door at 6am!!!

And what kind of security member leaves thier radio lying around!!
