For a film crew to block my front door?!

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 14:49

I live in a small town and there is currently a blockbuster film being filmed right outside my front door. Its a period setting so they have done loads of set decoration all around, including blocking up some windows etc.

Yesterday my dp came home (I wasn't in) and our front door had a door shaped block wedged in front. He grabbed a crew or security member who moved it and he told them it can't be there as I am due to go into labour any day (I'm 39 weeks) and it is our only exit/entrance so for fire and health and safety reasons it can't be there, or we at least need to know when!

Earlier on he popped in from work, and it was there again. He repeated the same speech from yesterday and they moved it, and told him when its up it will only be for 2 mins max.

Its up there again, and has been for nearly 45 minutes!!! I have rang and left a voicemail for the assistant location manager (his number was put on a info leaflet through our door a week ago).

Essentially I'm trapped in my house, and yes I could push it out with some force but that's not really fair on me is it?!

Its actually starting to make me feel quite panicky now.

AIBU?! Or what should I do?!

pixie they were given permission to use only part of the property by MIL not the doorway. Anyway it's illegal to block the entrance to a residential property regardless of what they pay.

ThenAgain · 22/10/2013 22:36

Can I be really thick and ask what a door block actually is?

ShakeRattleNRoll · 22/10/2013 22:37

you got to start worrying when they mess about with your backdoor tbh

ShakeRattleNRoll · 22/10/2013 22:39

are you in wallingford by any chance?

Lj8893 · 22/10/2013 23:05

No payment.
Don't have a back door or garden, our front door is our only entrance/exit.
Nope, not Wallingford. Sherborne in dorset.

This evening a Facebook friend contacted me regarding the local newspaper where she works as she had seen my Facebook rants and they are interested in running a story. I haven't spoken properly to them yet but dp did tell the location manager, who apparently looked a tad worried and asked us not to do anything yet and he will be in touch again in the morning!!

So guys how much do you think we can get out of them?! I'm not one to be greedy or grabby but you know, new baby on the way and all......Grin

Make sure you practise your sad faces.

edam · 22/10/2013 23:18

Entertaining thread but this is really serious - wtf would have happened if there had been a fire? Or if you needed an ambulance? Highly dangerous and completely irresponsible.

womma · 22/10/2013 23:31

Yes, it would be great if you got some hush money! And another box of chocolates too I reckon.

RudolphLovesoftplay · 22/10/2013 23:34

Shamelessly place marking. This thread is fascinating with its twists and turns!! Good luck with your baby OP x

Lj8893 · 22/10/2013 23:39

The door block is like a fake set door which they wedged in place in front of our door.
I didn't really know what else to call it!

Shall keep you all updated!

Jesus fucking wept. They are putting a block on your one and only fire escape? Be clear about this, you could get them shut down right now. It IS that serious OP. Stop 'negotiating' with them. If they do it again contact the police on the non emergency number AND ring the HSE. Immediately.

Stellarpunk · 23/10/2013 00:01

Nash, thus thread isn't 'entertaining'.. It's criminal.

Stellarpunk · 23/10/2013 00:02

As is my spelling apparently....

princesspuds · 23/10/2013 00:32

Personally, I would be asking them to reimburse your dp for loss of earnings due to having to fight to get out of your home at the very least

AmandaHoldenmigroin · 23/10/2013 01:01

Why exactly are they not paying you money for using your house as a location in a movie. Seriously, some people take the piss.

Zoway · 23/10/2013 07:37

I cant belueve that somebody was told off for cooking supper in her own house, again, not paid........ i hated morse too. I would have cooked too. Fgs!

Glad to see someone else grasps the seriousness of it and not just me! Cannot believe how blase the OP is being about it.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 10:30

I haven't been blasé about it at all, as I have already said the block came down on Monday evening and hasent been back up since. Up until then I was fighting tooth and nail to get it down.
Jesus why don't people read the whole thread!!!!

Yes, OP it's all your fault!!

Last day of filming today, right?

I'm very jealous Adenuf saw the original being filmed. It was a great film.

I have read the entire thread. You weren't fighting tooth and nail to get it down, you were happy with a box of chocolates/wine and for someone to stay outside your door just in case you needed to get out.
They shouldn't be blocking it up in the first place!

jellyboatsandpirates · 23/10/2013 12:55

yet the assistant has been stationed outside our door since we spoke at 9am so so far they are sticking to their promise which is all I care about right now.
A bottle of wine and a big box of chocs has turned up at our door too which always weakens my resolve

There, see, just gone back and knew I didn't dream that bit, Smile

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 13:06

Yes an assistant was stationed outside our door but the block wasent even up!! So how much more fighting was I meant to do?! As soon as I started fighting it properly, as in speaking to someone senior rather than the rude, gormless crew who were putting the block up, the block came down. Yes, it took a day and a half for that to happen but it happened all the same. Sorry I don't feel comfortable hanging out my window shouting at them, that's not good for my stress levels right now, certainly not on top of the stress I was already feeling from them.

I meant to also say that fire and police crew have been all around the film set (I didn't realise this until my dp told me yesterday) and so were completely capable of speaking up if they were concerned about our door being blocked.

We have told them we want compensation and they are coming to see us to discuss it this evening.
Filming in my road has finished

I posted this thread thinking if anything I would be told I was over reacting......didn't once think I would be told I was under-reacting and be told i am flaming wet etc.

I'm still pretty pissed off at the starstruck comment tbh. I never once gave any impression I was starstruck.

That's fair enough, but did they know when they were going round the set that there was a family trapped behind a false door with no way of getting out?
I honestly can't see them being OK with that. More likely they were unaware otherwise I'm sure they WOULD have spoken up.

Lj8893 · 23/10/2013 13:18

We could get out by pushing the block with a bit of force, but the danger then would have been hurting somebody the other side. And obviously if I was in alot of labour pain i may well have struggled. This is what I was mainly concerned about tbh.

When my dp pushed it out the way he very nearly took out an elderly woman!
