For a film crew to block my front door?!

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 14:49

I live in a small town and there is currently a blockbuster film being filmed right outside my front door. Its a period setting so they have done loads of set decoration all around, including blocking up some windows etc.

Yesterday my dp came home (I wasn't in) and our front door had a door shaped block wedged in front. He grabbed a crew or security member who moved it and he told them it can't be there as I am due to go into labour any day (I'm 39 weeks) and it is our only exit/entrance so for fire and health and safety reasons it can't be there, or we at least need to know when!

Earlier on he popped in from work, and it was there again. He repeated the same speech from yesterday and they moved it, and told him when its up it will only be for 2 mins max.

Its up there again, and has been for nearly 45 minutes!!! I have rang and left a voicemail for the assistant location manager (his number was put on a info leaflet through our door a week ago).

Essentially I'm trapped in my house, and yes I could push it out with some force but that's not really fair on me is it?!

Its actually starting to make me feel quite panicky now.

AIBU?! Or what should I do?!

I really must be more laid back than I give myself credit for! I really wouldn't mind and if I went into labour I'd just shout out to them to get it moved.

On the other hand, it is bothering you and so you need to deal with it - shout out the window and get them to come and move it - then go and talk to someone in charge - not just a 'hand/security'.

Oldraver · 20/10/2013 15:14

I would kidnap it and hole it to ransom, or blast out some very not period loud music Grin

Oldraver · 20/10/2013 15:15

Or stand in the middle of the set and pretend you're in labour

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 15:16

Its all sorted! When they took it off I opened my door and gave the poor man a bit of an earful. The location manager rang me back quite quickly after that and was very apologetic, said he will make sure we are aware everytime it goes up and that someone will be directly outside to remove it and to ring him anytime I need to.
He also said if in an emergency I pushed it down and did any damage, then I wouldn't be liable for it.

I feel a lot calmer now!

Well, our flat belongs to the pub next door which my DPs mum runs, she gave permission to do bits to the pub but didn't realise that would mean our flat (which is separate to the pub)!

Film is far from the madding crowd. I've completely outed myself now if anyone knows me!

Glad that's sorted :)

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 20/10/2013 15:23

Great result :)

I imagine the location manager is terrified of you suing him if you go into labour and can't get out. Well worth having a hand stood there just in case!

How much longer are they going to be there filming?

I wouldn't worry about 'outing yourself' in your last post - I think if anyone knows you, you would have outed yourself in your first post. I'm guessing there are a limited number of 39 week pregnant women, having their doors barricaded by a film set making a period film :)

womma · 20/10/2013 15:31

Ooh, have you seen Carey Mulligan? She's in it.

I'm glad they've set you free, that must have driven you bonkers. Good luck!

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 15:33

I doubt I know anyone on here in rl anyway Smile

They finish filming on weds or thurs i think so a few more days of this yet!

Haven't seen Carey mulligan yet.....just a lot of gorgeous shire horses and a lot of horse shit Grin

I would ask their healths and safety person about the fire risks of it being in front of your door and get a copy of their risk assessment for you. Even though it's been sorted it may be worth it for peace of mind and for them to be referred to when they 'forget'

MokuMoku · 20/10/2013 15:37

Didn't they finish shooting that in 1966?

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 15:39

Good idea catamongthepigeons

moku yes they finished the original film then yes!

Tell 'em they're wasting their time as nobody will do this better than Julie Christie, Alan Bates and Terence Stamp did.

womma · 20/10/2013 15:43

It's just not what you need when you're about to pop is it?

Just think though, one day the film will be on tv and you'll be able to tell your child that a very pregnant you was sat inside, waiting for him or her to be born. And you'll laugh about it.

I've got a bit if a crush on the hunky Danish director. Don't imagine you feel like doing any 'hunk 'o' burning love' spotting out of your window in your state do you?!

Wishing you all the best, hope you've not got too long to go now.

womma · 20/10/2013 15:45

Reckon you could be right wetaugust. It's a great story though.

Lj8893 · 20/10/2013 15:47

True wetaugust my English teacher who must have shown us that film about twice a week would agree too!

womma I will do my best, didn't know i might be missing hunk sightings!! I have a front row seat in my living room!

I just googled him, he is abit scrummy!

OP posts:
womma · 20/10/2013 15:52

He's lovely isn't he? I definitely would!

oldgrandmama · 20/10/2013 15:52

Call the Police, the local Council, because that's bloody outrageous! Then get your own back, make sure family, neighbours, friends keep walking in shot when they're filming! They DON'T bloody own the street. Cheeky sods. Hope the birth goes well, by the way.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 20/10/2013 15:53

Is that the one with Michael sheen in it Envy
I was a bit hmm about them remaking it but I will give it the benefit of the doubt
Going to have find out who the hunky director is now

Reprint · 20/10/2013 16:00

Am now likely to watch the new fim. on release, with zero attention to scenery & hunk, and all attention focussed on being able to say "ahh, THATS where lj lives" Grin Grin Grin

Hope all goes well with the birth!! (and that they have the grace to buy you some flowers if still filming when LO arrives!)

deepfriedsage · 20/10/2013 16:07

Keep in touch with them, make sure they don't block you in so close to your due date. They may forget or go off sick.

halfwildlingwoman · 20/10/2013 16:23

Carey Mulligan, not sure if she's right for Bathsheba. And that Tom Sturridge looks like a nob. (totally and unfairly judging by appearance)

womma · 20/10/2013 16:31

I agree. I think Romola Garai would have been good. Carey doesn't float my boat that much.

Neither does the Sturridge boy, he's no Terence Stamp is he? God, Mr Stamp was beautiful in that film. And Alan Bates too. Sigh.

Sorry for being all man crazy, I'm preggers, what can I do?!

Sinful1 · 20/10/2013 16:31

call the local fire station and explain, have them come out and put the film crew in thier place.

Nanny0gg · 20/10/2013 16:54

He also said if in an emergency I pushed it down and did any damage, then I wouldn't be liable for it

How thoughtful Hmm
