For a film crew to block my front door?!

I live in a small town and there is currently a blockbuster film being filmed right outside my front door. Its a period setting so they have done loads of set decoration all around, including blocking up some windows etc.

Yesterday my dp came home (I wasn't in) and our front door had a door shaped block wedged in front. He grabbed a crew or security member who moved it and he told them it can't be there as I am due to go into labour any day (I'm 39 weeks) and it is our only exit/entrance so for fire and health and safety reasons it can't be there, or we at least need to know when!

Earlier on he popped in from work, and it was there again. He repeated the same speech from yesterday and they moved it, and told him when its up it will only be for 2 mins max.

Its up there again, and has been for nearly 45 minutes!!! I have rang and left a voicemail for the assistant location manager (his number was put on a info leaflet through our door a week ago).

Essentially I'm trapped in my house, and yes I could push it out with some force but that's not really fair on me is it?!

Its actually starting to make me feel quite panicky now.

AIBU?! Or what should I do?!

Wow, that's awful. Is it worth ringing the non emergency police to say that they've basically barricaded you in?

I would start shouting "help I'm trapped" at the top of your voice as loud as you can over and over.

Jesus Christ that is awful. I'd be giving someone a great big piece of my mind when you eventually get out. Is there any way you can ring a friend to come round and ask them to move it?

I don't think the police would be any use since I assume you have agreed to them doing the window and door blocking and they are paying you?

If not - get then to compensate you!

And wait until they are filming then lean out of your window and shout 'oi move the bloody thing blocking my door'

Btw when the leaflet went through the door did you call him to find out what would be happening?

Tell them you'll get the papers involved.
Go out, when you can, and make a nuisance of yourself.
Stand in shot, etc.
People filming really get on my wick. They always seem to have the attitude that they are very much more important than everyone else.
Which film is it? Grin

If they've made it so you cannot leave your own house then it isn't overreacting to call the police. No one sensible would think that was ok!

I would be livid.
Can you shout at them from a window? or are they blocked to. You and your DP have explained the situation and been accomodating, i wouldn't let that thing be put back up from now on, surely they need your permission to do it?

is there an A list movie star in this film? If so, find him/her on twitter and tell them what's going on. The barricade will be gone and you'll probably receive a large bunch of flowers too...

Silly question but have they got permission to do all that to the outside of your house? Did they make it clear up front the extent of the work they would have to do? Hope it doesn't go on for long. I'd feel exactly the same in your position. I assume your DP isn't home otherwise I'd get him to shove it open then apologise sarcastically asking how much longer they're going to be Smile

Definitely wave out of the window. Was going to suggest climbing out but maybe not a good plan in your condition.

They have wedged your front door so you can't open it - wtf is this even legal, what if there is a fire or other emergency, I would call the police

Just go and stand in the middle of the film set. Tell them you daren't go in your home in case you go into labour and cannot get out.

Make a nuisance of yourself when they're filming and before you know it the location manager will be round with a fistful of £20 notes
