To think that if you are OP

..you should bloody well check your post makes sense and is readable? Starting to really piss me off that people want advice and support but can't even be arsed to check that they have used actual words. Yes, we all struggle with phone keys but some of us take the trouble to correct the typos and bizarre auto-corrects. And you can turn off auto-correct, you know.

If I can't understand your post, you will get no support from me.

Rant over.

Thank you!

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 19/10/2013 20:05

OP, you know you said that you could turn off auto-correct? Well you can also turn off your I(diot) phone :)

IHaveA · 19/10/2013 20:08

I do not need thanks for responding to a request for help but I don't think its unreasonable to want confirmation that the OP has actually bothered to read the replies.

If an OP has specifically asked for advice and you have taken the trouble to give a considered answer then surely it's polite to acknowledge the replies.

ScaryFucker · 19/10/2013 20:08

FS, perhaps I am wrongly judging others by my own standards

When I overtly ask a specific question or ask for specific advice whether in RL or on 't'internet I consider it bad manners to not even acknowledge that people have taken the time to respond, even if only to say "thanks for that, but I don't agree"

others may not think it's rude, but I do

IHaveA · 19/10/2013 20:09

My reply was for Fruedian. Smile

pianodoodle · 19/10/2013 20:11

I'll be sure to double check any future OP I write so as not to miss out on wisdom.

I imagine someone named argymargy is just the sort of person I'd be looking to for valuable support.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 19/10/2013 20:13

Take the shame Original Poster, take the shame. Grin Grin

Lazysuzanne · 19/10/2013 20:22

If there are no paragraphs in a post I wont read it.

I just look at it and think 'UNINTELLIGIBLE BRAIN DUMP'

gloucestergirl · 19/10/2013 20:22

Hasn't this become a bit nasty?

I disagree with the OP. Posts and e-mails are half way between speaking and writing formally. Grammatical and spelling errors will happen because it is more a stream of consciousness. Also there are dyslexic people, such as myself, who can't edit properly and can't hope to come close enough to certain words for the spellcheck to get it.

I hate it when an entire post is pretty much ignored by petty mistake-pointing out. If you did that when someone spoke, you would be considered really rude. The same if someone wrote you a letter and you circled all the mistakes in red. Just let little mistakes go because people do make mistakes. We're not journalists getting paid for our contributions (also journalists have should have a senior editor and a copy-writer checking for mistakes).

CatAmongThePigeons · 19/10/2013 20:27

Grin The high and mighty position isn't quite in reach yet OP.

Fabulous fail, thank you for the laugh.

On a side note, any online resources for grammar? We didn't learn anything about it in school and I'm shit at it.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 19/10/2013 20:33

But that's the point Gloucestergirl, the OP obviously feels that the sorts of inevitable errors that you point out are unacceptable ... while rather spectacularly making one of her own.

She could just come back on here and have a bit of a laugh at herself - I mean, it is pretty funny - and the whole thing would blow over!

Lazysuzanne · 19/10/2013 20:36

I quite like the bizarre auto corrects, they're kinda like e-freudian slips :o

JohnSnowsTie · 19/10/2013 20:49

When I saw your title, I initially thought "that doesn't make sense, I can't be arsed to read it".

Fortunately (or not) for you I have time on my hands...

Lj8893 · 19/10/2013 21:10

Ohhhhh please come back Op!!!

Topseyt · 19/10/2013 21:16

I enjoy the "bizarre auto-corrects" too. I think they often enhance a thread and brighten things up.

They are the reason why I never use auto-correct or other predictive text. Machines trying to dictate to me are more likely to frustrate me, and I end up with steam coming out of my ears.

ilovecolinfirth · 19/10/2013 21:20

Husks gig ther fudge pig hut churt

ilovecolinfirth · 19/10/2013 21:20

Oooops, sorry. Damn predictive text...;)

CeliaLytton · 19/10/2013 21:24

I love threads like this. Thank you OP. or should that be an OP?

Caitlin17 · 19/10/2013 21:24

I like the auto corrects too. They really are bizarre. My phone does it and I'm frequently left thinking, how on earth could it have been programmed to think I meant that.

I like that most people post a correction and I especially like where the phone auto corrects the correction!

Lazysuzanne · 19/10/2013 21:26

I thought 'OP' might be a new abbreviation for something exotic and interesting :o

Lazysuzanne · 19/10/2013 21:29

it might have meant 'if you are Ordering Pizza'?

ScaryFucker · 19/10/2013 21:30

if you are off piste ?

happydaze77 · 19/10/2013 21:31

or 'Overly Pedantic'?
