Rereading books 1 & 2 before mad about the boy, haven't read them for years, she is insinuated as fat in he films and books but she veers between 9st 3 and 8st 7! Know they were written a few years ago but still!

Oh god, she's gone to America hasn't she? (Shazzer) You don't think HF is going to do a Marian Keyes and set some of the future books in the US? I hated the MK one (or was there more than one?) where she moves away from the Oirish Mammy tales.

Slothlorien · 21/10/2013 15:37

How did MD die ?

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 21/10/2013 15:47

I would like to know how he died too. I'm not going to read the book (read the first two) as I find her annoying.

It seems a bit sad that HF doesn't seem to have added anything new. Bit stuck in the 90s.

JustBecauseICan · 21/10/2013 16:32

Where I am we don't yet know how he died.

Cosmo and Woney (or is it Magda and Jeremy?) Some of those posh smugs came round to tell her. She seems to be building us up to a flashback.

Oh Christ I hope we don't have a hilarious-giving-birth and her swearing at Mark flashback. I really will email HF if we do. To ask for my money back.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 21/10/2013 17:30

I can tell you how he died but don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Viviennemary · 21/10/2013 17:38

I nearly bought it the other day but thought no. I thought HF had a total nerve to kill off Mark Darcy. I know it's only a book but still!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/10/2013 17:46

I have just read it on holiday. Found myself speed reading parts of it. Bridget at 50 just didn't work.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/10/2013 17:53

Sadly I thought the third book was a bit rubbish. Some of the stuff about MD was moving but the majority was pish.

I also thought the ages of the children and her age didn't quite add up - how old was she meant to have been when she married MD?

I saw something in paper recently which suggested that MD may not after all be dead, guess, she's leaving things open for a fourth book.

JustBecauseICan · 21/10/2013 17:55

Oh please lord no. I might have to kill him myself.

Yeah, surely she would have been, what 32 ish when she got round to marrying Mark....(wasn't book 2 1997? Princess Diana died in it didn't she?) So unless there were Fertility Issues (but, HF couldn't do that, because Ben Elton beat her to it) the kids would be teens.

Nerfmother · 21/10/2013 21:15

Yes! So why are they so little? Just found the bit at four years in when Mabel is 3 months and billy is two. So five and seven.
Groan. Mr walker the grumpy teacher is just mark Darcy again isn't he?

Trills · 21/10/2013 21:27

Not everyone decides to have kids straight away after getting married.

I don't remember old-book-Bridget being interested in kids at all (she bribed one with chocolate buttons but didn't seem overly maternal), so maybe they didn't get around to deciding to try til she was 40.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/10/2013 21:35

I assume its because Helen F had her children late so just wrote from that experience.

But I still reckon the timings don't work. Have clearly thought about this too much.

Nerfmother · 21/10/2013 21:38

I'm not blaming her, just seems odd to have missing years iyswim? First one at 44, if she is 51 now. Feel like she should be 41 - would work better with style and subject matter.

Nerfmother · 26/10/2013 11:46

Ok am 95% through. I was right - so predictable. It's exactly the same story written again. And as if school would make the kids do Father's Day cards. I'm so disappointed , I will have to read the first one again.
