Placed an order and was given an estimated time of 30-45 mins. I called back after an HOUR, and was told my order had just left ten minutes ago (I live a 5 min walk from the takeaway, probably less than 1 min by car) and would be with me asap. I called again after another 20 mins and asked where the hell our food is! They've said it was delayed because he forgot to put a pizza in - I said we haven't ordered pizza!! I asked him to confirm what my order is as I'm concerned there's a mix up somewhere, but he couldn't tell me my order because the slip is apparently out with the driver for delivery! That was 15 minutes ago.

I'm raging.

DD has already fallen asleep on the couch and woken up crying as she's hungry! I've offered to make her something to eat but she's adamant that she wants her food from the takeway.

1 hour and 45 mins and still not bloody here!!

DIYapprentice · 19/10/2013 12:40

OP, same thing happened to me, I have never used them again!

YANBU at all - (and all the posters who think she should have walked/ordered later, etc - YABVVVVVU!!!!!)

OrangeMochaFrappucino · 19/10/2013 12:53

A bit off-topic but I get really irritated with certain family members who seem to regard it as some form of moral superiority to eat late. Firstly, we like to eat together as a family and secondly, I would never have the patience to get through bedtime if I was hungry!

Our takeaway is five mins down the road and doesn't deliver! I have never been there even once myself though - it's definitely DH's job.

AdmiralData · 19/10/2013 14:17

Previous poster who was once sent a bottle of wine due to your valued custom ... do you live in Wales? I used to work in a take away that did that at Christmas.

diddl · 19/10/2013 14:36

Bloody hell-there's takeaway etiquette??!!

I like my evening meal at abour 6pm ideally-so shoot me!

Jeez, if I'm hungry & paying-I'll eat when I bloody well want to.

YouTheCat · 19/10/2013 14:50

If I eat later than about 7, I end up with awful heartburn.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 19/10/2013 14:56

Nope. Belfast.

PeppiNephrine · 19/10/2013 15:01

You never order take away for your child?

I've got loads of children, I couldn't afford it, plus one of them is on a special diet and isn't allowed medically, so easier not to.
I like to think of it as a grown ups treat when they are in bed. ;)

Throughthelongnight · 19/10/2013 15:07

Gone are the days when we could tuck the dcs up and have takeaway alone. My own fault really for introducing them to such exotic foods as onion bhajis.

We also order early in the hope that will not have to wait too long Hmm

GaryBuseysTeeth · 19/10/2013 15:08

Yanbu.

Slightly off track, am I the only person who loves those wonderful tacky kitsch horoscope calenders Chinese takeaways give out?

Getting takeaway tonight thanks to this thread!

LayMizzRarb · 19/10/2013 15:28

Our local Chinese takeaway is about 100m away. we do live at the top of a very steep hill They obviously have a caller ID they just say 'Hello David - usual?' he normally gives them £5 or so tip, normally all his loose change . They always bring free stuff; Prawn crackers, the bottle of beer, cans of soft drink, stir fried veg.
Their fillet steak in Cantonese sauce is to die for.

TheDoctrineOfSpike · 19/10/2013 15:28

Yes, Friday nights are a good night to order early.

Flatiron · 19/10/2013 15:40

Does everyone tip the takeaway delivery person? We've never tipped, as it's usually quite expensive anyway. Do you think they expect a tip? Blush

LondonMother · 19/10/2013 15:44

Ah! Metres, not miles. I was genuinely puzzled by why LayMizzRarb's takeaway was on such familiar terms with her OH when it was on the other side of the country. Doh.

thebody · 19/10/2013 15:44

such funny comments on don't order takeaways. don't feed kids takeaways and fetch it yourself.

you just wonder what such posters do for a laugh.

op I would be annoyed. nothing beats jim jams with the kids a good film, wine for mummy and a takeaway.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 19/10/2013 17:38

DH is away tonight. Shall I cook the DC dinner and get myself a takeaway?

AlpacaPicnic · 19/10/2013 17:43

Gawd, yes! You can have exactly what you fancy and eat way too much in your jammies...

Why can't my stupid DH ever go away? [jealous]

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 19/10/2013 18:12

The problem is I don't know exactly what I fancy. Confused

dubstarr73 · 19/10/2013 18:48

I'm ordering a curry tonight for ds and me. From a takeaway I can see from my sitting room window. At around 6pm so it arrives while we're watching Strictly and then X Factor. I may even drink alcohol whilst consuming it - even though my child is in the house with me

I do so hope you gave him a Fruit Shoot

MissDuke · 19/10/2013 20:45

Phew, so glad I read this thread! At least now I know the current takeaway etiquette. I almost made a faux pas by getting mine at 6pm! I am instead sitting starving, waiting for a more civilised time - will 10pm be ok? If I have the energy to walk down by then, despite the hunger?

In all seriousness my daft hubby turned up at the pizzeria yday at 4.30pm and was gutted it didn't open until 5pm :-D

PeppiNephrine · 19/10/2013 21:16

jesus, one poster expresses mild surprise at getting takeout early, and people are acting as if they published a manifesto on the bloody subject!
Calm down a bit, it was just a question. Hmm
