Placed an order and was given an estimated time of 30-45 mins. I called back after an HOUR, and was told my order had just left ten minutes ago (I live a 5 min walk from the takeaway, probably less than 1 min by car) and would be with me asap. I called again after another 20 mins and asked where the hell our food is! They've said it was delayed because he forgot to put a pizza in - I said we haven't ordered pizza!! I asked him to confirm what my order is as I'm concerned there's a mix up somewhere, but he couldn't tell me my order because the slip is apparently out with the driver for delivery! That was 15 minutes ago.

I'm raging.

DD has already fallen asleep on the couch and woken up crying as she's hungry! I've offered to make her something to eat but she's adamant that she wants her food from the takeway.

1 hour and 45 mins and still not bloody here!!

Why did you order so early anyway?

Eh, because it's the kids tea?

Watchdog covered sites like Just-Eat and Hungry House some months ago. They found that lots of "take-aways" were operating from private residences and industrial estates so didn't have the relevant certificates. Also some were delivering from a sister take-away miles away Shock

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/10/2013 20:28

Oh now there's questions about the time of your order!!

OP how dare you want to eat at a time you want to eat at! Angry Grin

Some of these responses are hilarious.

PeppiNephrine · 18/10/2013 20:30

was just wondering is all, takeaway for us is an adults only later on thing, hadn't occurred to me to give to children for their dinner. I missed the bit about the sleepy child demanding takeaway.... teenager or toddler who can tell

southeastastra · 18/10/2013 20:31

what a loopy thread, is everyone drunk already?

AllDirections · 18/10/2013 20:32

Am I the only one who now wants a takeaway?

AlpacaPicnic · 18/10/2013 20:37

OP isn't complaining because someone made an error, she is complaining because they lied about it.

I would be annoyed as well.

I had delivery curry for tea. It was bloody lovely. I hope you eventually enjoyed yours.

YouTheCat · 18/10/2013 20:38

If I wasn't already full of casserole, I'd want a takeaway now. Grin

SouthernComforts · 18/10/2013 20:49

My nearest takeaway wouldn't deliver to me when I gave them my postcode and it was the same as theirs Blush

I offered to meet them halfway down my driveway

Once, after a night drinking, I tried talking the pizza delivery guy into giving us a lift to a party. He said no. So I ordered a pizza to that address and he took us Grin

To ask them to drop round some milk? Wink

AlpacaPicnic · 18/10/2013 20:52

We live in studentville so have loads of takeaways nearby. If we the lazy students order and live in walking distance, the takeaways just walk the order around... It's quite a common sight around here!

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/10/2013 20:52

:o that would look good wouldn't it. Take away and no milk. That's punishable by jail time isn't it?

Poor deprived dd Wink

AlpacaPicnic · 18/10/2013 20:53

I fancy a hot chocolate with a slug of baileys in it now... Shall I?

SPsTombRaidingWithCliff · 18/10/2013 20:57

I had a take away tonight. The spice took a coating of skin out of my tongue and the roof of my mouth

SnakeyMcBadass · 18/10/2013 21:01

I want a takeaway Envy

NicknameIncomplete · 18/10/2013 21:57

I want a takeaway too. Grin

I dont get websites like Just Eat. I thought it would be easier phoning the takeaway directly. (i also saw the watchdog programme & websites like that dont operate where i live).

Hope the food was worth the wait Wink

YouTheCat · 18/10/2013 22:08

I use Just Eat about once a fortnight. It is handy because you can rate the takeaways and so you can see which ones have been rated higher than others.

I discovered an excellent chippy/kebab/pizza place this way. They even do steamed fish without the batter with chili or lemon. Very nice indeed.

Abbierhodes · 18/10/2013 22:16

Wow, I did not know that there's an issue with living too close to a takeaway!
If you don't want to go out, you don't want to go out! And the issue over times??

OP, did you not know that you're only supposed to order takeaway at 10.45 if you live in the outer Hebrides. Oh, and only lettuce.
And not for the kids, either. Make them a roast dinner you lazt slattern.

MNers, you are crazy crazy people!

HugAndRoll · 18/10/2013 22:23

This is one of the most bizarre threads I've been on, I need to take notes:

  • takeaways are bad.
  • if you can walk there you MUST NOT have it delivered.
  • you can only order after 9pm.
  • children must never eat a takeaway. I'm guessing because they have a similar reaction to them as a gremlin with all food.

Have I missed anything before I totally fuck my life up?

Throughthelongnight · 18/10/2013 22:25

I used just eat ONCE, long story but basically after waiting ages I phoned takeaway to be told it was waiting on the counter, for the delivery guy. Finally arrived ages later, not surprisingly tepid. Just eat blamed take away, take away blamed just eat.

I think the problem is if you phone the restaurant direct, and they are busy (being a Friday) they can say it will be longer. Just eat is putting time pressure on them without assessing their orders at the time.

I now use just eat for reviews and menus, but phone restaurant direct.

We used to order from a take away that was so close that they walked to us. When we called and gave the address they just said "your usual?".

Hope it was worth the wait op Smile
