to expect Groupon to either send me what I ordered or refund my money?

I ordered 2 iphone charging cables a few weeks ago. They sent me one.

When I sent an email asking where the other one was, they said that due to high demand they couldn't send me the secind one and that they wouldn't do a partial refund either, so I basically got one cable for the price of two.

I returned the item on principle and asked for a full refund, but now they say they haven't received it, so I have no cable, no refund and no idea how to get the thieving bastards to refund my money!

I don't think they can legally do that!

HulaHooperStormTrooper · 18/10/2013 14:35

Have you contacted Groupon?

HorryIsUpduffed · 18/10/2013 14:37

YABU. Groupon has been full of scams from day one. You shouldn't have expected any better than a middle finger waved in your general direction.

HulaHooperStormTrooper · 18/10/2013 14:40

Horry that's a ridiculous attitude. Yes there have been scams on Groupon (as well as Ebay, Amazon and god knows where else) but I would still expect support if a transaction goes awry.

PeppiNephrine · 18/10/2013 14:48

Groupon can't send you what you ordered, you didn't order it from them. You ordered it from a different company that used Groupon as a deal broker.
Who have you contacted already?

WeAreEternal · 18/10/2013 14:54

Groupon are a bloody scam.

And they get away with it because they are third party sellers (or something like that)

I booked an experience day through them, three 'tickets' for and 'experience for two' (so that six of us could do the experience together)

The company went bust literally days after the groupon offer ended, and on their website the said anyone who purchased the groupon offer needed to contact then for a refund as all money had been sent back to groupon.

We contacted groupon, Heard nothing, a week later we received the details for the experience day in the post.
Groupon were a nightmare to get hold of.
When I eventually spoke to them I was told the tickets are non refundable.
I have spoken to them dozens of times and they blatantly refuse to accept any responsibility, even though I have proof sent by the experience company that the sent all the money back to groupon, but groupon still say that it's not their problem.

It's been 7 months since I paid for the experience day.

HorryIsUpduffed · 18/10/2013 15:06

I'm not saying it's right - but I am kind of saying that anyone who uses Groupon needs to be aware that offers that look too good to be true typically are... and if you hand over hundreds of pounds (as in the now infamous but recurrent mattress scam) then you have more money than sense.

DaleyBump · 18/10/2013 15:09

Mattress scam?

TiaMariaandSpringCleaning · 18/10/2013 15:09

Did you pay by credit card? If so, contact your card provider - they may be able to help.

HorryIsUpduffed · 18/10/2013 15:32

Every few months there's an incredible deal on memory foam mattresses.

Only they never get delivered.

CrohnicallyLurking · 18/10/2013 15:51

I got a memory foam mattress from group on, I slept on it last night!

HorryIsUpduffed · 18/10/2013 17:03

Grin You must be about the only one!

Melonbreath · 18/10/2013 17:06

Online ombudsman?

Joolsy · 18/10/2013 17:30

I've had to get a refund from Groupon a couple of times & they've always been easy to get hold of & given me the refund without any problem

TwoStepsBeyond · 18/10/2013 17:44

I've had a refund before when something arrived that didn't work, but this time they just said they can't fulfill the order and won't refund. I suppose I should just write it off, it's only £10, and then close my account but their attitude had really pissed me off.

I will double check who the actual supplier was and try to contact them.

I suppose I can take some comfort from moaning about them on MN, as it may stop at least one other person from bothering with their poxy deals.

If they haven't received it back then it is your responsibility to take it up with Royal Mail. They are the ones that lost the item. What class post did you send it? You can claim for compensation from Royal Mail. This is not groupons fault.

ChessieFL · 18/10/2013 19:47

Thants - it wasn't lost in the post, the OP said it was never sent.

iago · 18/10/2013 19:52

I have had excellent customer service from Groupon on the three occasions I have asked for a refund, including a pub which had ceased trading and a kayaking experience which was unsatisfactory - my friend sank because there was no bung in her kayak! (Sorry: that sounds a bit rude!)

OnIlkelyMoorBahtat · 18/10/2013 20:01

If they have accepted the money, then they need to deliver what you've paid them for - they can't just say, oh we haven't got anymore but we're keeping your money anyway, thanks, bye! And it doesn't matter if it was "only" 10p, it's your money, not theirs!
OP why don't you start a thread in Money Matters, people might be able to give you advice on how to actually get it back.

PeppiNephrine · 18/10/2013 20:13

you're complaining to the wrong place! ask the company for your goods, you only go to groupon if they don't help you.

Seriously, read the t&c and get a hold on how it works. Groupon probably said they can't fulfil your order since they are not the company that are meant to be fulfilling your order!

Thants · 18/10/2013 20:16

Chessie I meant the return. She has sent back the item and the company say they haven't received it so won't refund her. Royal Mail list the return.

Thants · 18/10/2013 20:16

*lost

TwoStepsBeyond · 18/10/2013 20:29

Yes will claim from Royal Mail for the returned parcel that went missing, but still don't see how they can justify only sending half the order but keeping all the money! As it was Groupon I paid then I took it up with them first. They didn't say that I should contact anyone else, just said they could refund me or send the other part. I will read the t&cs and see where to go next. Thanks all.

Sorry, couldn't refund
