To have told this estate agent to stop playing games and call me when he's going to be a grown up

He rang and said are we still looking for somewhere to buy. I said yes. So he said he said something not yet on website and we could see it on sat.

I said what road is it on and he wouldn't tell me, just a general road. So I said ni wouldn't know if we want to see it without knowing what road and some roads I like and some I don't and he wouldn't tell me.

So I said call me back when you are prepared to stop wasting my time and playing games and when you want to tell me the road it's on then I will tell you if I want a viewing.

He seemed bemused.

Ha ha ha! Nice one. Awesome work.

2cats2many · 16/10/2013 18:33

How on earth can you view it if you don't know where it is? [Confused]

Oh FFS! What a prick!

Glad you told him that! Where does he expect you to turn up on the day if you dont know the street is?

EA said to me yesterday I could not view a house before I sold mine! So I have to be homeless before I can view this house?

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 16/10/2013 18:42

Maybe he used to be in the SAS or MI5 and hasn't perfected his sales technique yet? Grin

I want to know what would happen next if you said Yes, book me in at 11?

If he said meet me at wherever address you could always have said No, actually I'm not interested in that area. If he'd said come to my office first you could've asked for the agency manager to enquire what kind of silly games they were playing.

I'm intrigued as to his reasoning.

Bowlersarm · 16/10/2013 18:42

It probably hasn't properly come onto the market yet, so he's unable to tell you until he gets the go ahead.

FranSanDisco · 16/10/2013 18:43

They are complete wank stains. One told us as we sat outside the property waiting for ES to turn us that we couldn't view the house without popping into the office for a mortgage consultation first. I had a mortgage already plus big deposit. We told them to forget it.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 16/10/2013 18:45

Clearly it's on a crap road or its something outside your budget or something similar.

eggsandwich · 16/10/2013 18:50

The agent possibly hasn't got a signed contract with the owner of the house he wants you to view, and therefore the agent is saying to the owner of the property that he has a viewer and is concerned that by giving you the address, that you might knock on the door and do a private sale.

MrTumblesKnickers · 16/10/2013 18:51

I used to work for a REA and they will tell you anything, just anything. If you get a client that says "I want a round house with no windows and 16 chimneys" you have to say "oh, something's just come onto the books that fits that description to a tee!" Then you frantically try and find something that looks vaguely similar.

That's what your agent has done here, I think.

Renniehorta · 16/10/2013 18:53

It all depends on how competitive the housing market is where you are looking. The house that I have just bought was on the market for 2 hours only. If I had not had advanced warning of it coming to market I would never have had a chance of buying it.

Dobbiesmum · 16/10/2013 20:05

We had a game loving estate agent teamed up with a similar seller.
We found a gorgeous house just within our budget, very very keen to have a look. Apparently the house was let out at the time and the landlord hadn't told his tenants that it was up for sale...
The EA got rather over excited while he was telling us we would all have to dress up and pretend to be surveyors or something in order to look inside because the LL didn't want them to find out until the sale was agreed.
Needless to say we told them to shove it, the whole thing just left a nasty taste in my mouth. I came very close to putting a note through the door but the EA had our address..

marriedinwhiteisback · 16/10/2013 20:38

We once made an appointment to view a house in mid December and asked the agent to make some appointments for use to view two other houses afterwards as we were both taking the afternoon off. When we arrived the estate agent told us that the owners had decided not go ahead with the viewing because they had put up the christmas tree and it was too close to Christmas and the other owners had decided the same. A few months later we saw the house we wanted to view on a reality TV property show thingy and the penny dropped as to why they didn't want us round that day.

Why the agent couldn't have phoned and been straightforward we will never know. Stayed where we were for five years instead Grin
