And...more to the point, if it is Multicultural carnival day, why the actual fuck does the whole of ds2 class have to dress as Canada?

Thats not exactly multicultural is it?

Yes. Let me just grab my spare moose head out of the loft Grin

I have a friend who will probably have an entire Canadian costume in her DS wardrobe. She loves dressing up days.

Why am I not like that?

fixitup, is some one playing a practical joke on you. I've just laughed at loud at the steel drum bit.

On a serious note, if this is real is it really helpful to multi culture to make children dress up in non existent national costumes ?

Silverlace · 16/10/2013 16:18

Why has no one mentioned lumberjacks? Surely that is what you think of when you think of Canada - lumberjacks and mounties? Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2013 16:19

Lumberjack - of course! Checked shirt and high heels, isn't it? Grin

bumpybecky · 16/10/2013 16:19

we had a canada costume day, we sent dd1 as a lumberjack in a checked shirt and jeans and made a comedy axe from a cardboard box cut down and silver spray paint for the blade and a cardboard tube painted with woodstain for handle

Caitlin17 · 16/10/2013 16:20

Sorry OP,I got your name wrong, still laughing at the Mountie steel band.

Katiepoes · 16/10/2013 16:20

I think you need to call the school and ask what it's all aboot.

Caitlin17 · 16/10/2013 16:22

checked shirt, high heels, suspenders and a bra. They might never repeat it.

stubbornstains · 16/10/2013 16:23

You beat me to it Caitlin Grin

TantrumsAndBalloons · 16/10/2013 16:24

bumpie I do not make things.

I wish I was the sort of person who could make props for dressing up day but I am not. I would rather take out my eyes with a spoon. And the finished result would look as if I did just that. Grin

Apparently, ds2 said they can just wear red and white.
Bit of a waste of time really.
Shall I send him in his England football shirt? That is red and white? Grin

OP posts:
FixItUpChappie · 16/10/2013 16:24

Well you could bundle him up in all his winter wear - scarf, toque, winter coat, gloves....that could work...except he will die of heat halfway though his steel drum routine Grin

Send him as Wolverine. The teacher will not be impressed but his friends will. NB that Weetabix make very good sideburns if you wrap them in Sellotape first to stop them disintegrating. Do not ask me how I know this.

Katiepoes · 16/10/2013 16:27

Is the steel drum thing a Cool Runnings reference maybe?

I'm with you on the making things malarkey, can you print a gold medal and write Winter Olympics on it? Throw in coat and scaf and there you go.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/10/2013 16:53

I was going to say winter gear (ideally with one of those earflap hats) plus tennis racquets tied to his feet as snowshoes.

Amy106 · 16/10/2013 17:03

I am in Canada right now and would suggest you dress your child like Canadian parents dress their own dc on Canada Day (July 1) from head to toe in as much red and white as you can find in their wardrobe or the wardrobe of a friend. Then add a child made Canadian maple leaf flag on a stick and you are good to go.

stubbornstains · 16/10/2013 17:12

Alternatively, Leonard Cohen? He's rocking a good hat or two nowadays...

celestialsquirrels · 16/10/2013 17:13

Dress him up as Celine Dion

Gwan gwan gwan gwan I dare you!!!!

motherinferior · 16/10/2013 17:17

Or as Joni Mitchell.

Or kd lang.

stubbornstains · 16/10/2013 17:17

Margaret Atwood? Bumper pack of metal pan scourers and...um...an intelligent expression?

stubbornstains · 16/10/2013 17:19

Joni Mitchell's Canadian?? Another one!!!!! Every day, I learn that a new musician/ act that I love is actually Canadian. It was Arcade Fire yesterday.

Vagndidit · 16/10/2013 17:22

Send DC in with one of those Hello, my name is...stickers with "Maybe" written in the blank ( as in the "Call me"... variety.

Ode to Canada's own Carly Rae Jepsen Wink

RobinSparkles · 16/10/2013 17:23

The Canadians in How I Met Your Mother wear red and white hockey shirts with bobble hats, if that helps.
