No I know IANBU, but I am stunned by some of the posters on here at the moment. Mumsnet has turned into the opinion pages of the Daily Mail.

Not just about the one issue, it is coming up on so many threads of different topics. Totally fed up of it.

OneStepCloser · 15/10/2013 12:23

I think its all too easy to have no empathy when hidden behind a screen.

YANBU.

YouTheCat · 15/10/2013 12:25

I'd rather be thought of as having empathy than come across as a heartless, self-serving gobshite, on the internet and in real life.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 15/10/2013 12:26

What threads do you mean?

AdmiralData · 15/10/2013 12:28

YANBU at all. The government don't need to divide the population, we do a damn fine job ripping the shit out of each other unaided.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 15/10/2013 12:28

I have no idea what you are talking about. MN is the same as it ever was and ever will be. Just with different names.

manicinsomniac · 15/10/2013 12:29

I don't know, it depends what you're talking about.

I think probably YABU because it isn't always easy. I cannot empathise. I don't know why, I just haven't ever been able to feel what someone else must be feeling. I also can't work out what other people are thinking or tell when someone is lying. It's even weirder because I'm a performing arts teacher so I can easily adopt other roles and characters. But empathy? No, I have none at all.

Dobbiesmum · 15/10/2013 12:32

Do you mean the Malala and McCann threads yesterday? Because they really annoyed me and there was a definite lack of empathy on them. Not sure if it actually is a lack of empathy or people just shit stirring though.

YouTheCat · 15/10/2013 12:32

But, manicinsomniac, are you deliberately nasty to people? I don't think you have to be able to empathise.

coldwinter · 15/10/2013 12:33

Dobbie - Yes. Some shit stirring maybe, but a lot of just nasty posters.

OP posts:
TEErickOrTEEreat · 15/10/2013 12:34

Well, which is it? Lack of empathy or just plain being nasty? Because they aren't the same thing.

coldwinter · 15/10/2013 12:36

No they aren't. A mixture depending on different posters.

I think the Penis Beaker thread has brought in too many posters who would be happier posting on the Daily Mail site.

OP posts:
TEErickOrTEEreat · 15/10/2013 12:37

So it's both?

Business as usual then. Stop blaming Penis Beaker.

YouTheCat · 15/10/2013 12:39

Last week it was racists. This week it's disablists.

Seems there's an influx of tossers on other threads too.

I don't mind people disagreeing. I don't mind a bit of a debate. But the disingenuous goady twats are getting a bit much.

Lweji · 15/10/2013 12:39

Such threads and such views pop out occasionally.

MN is not particularly known for empathy, though. Particularly AIBU.

Vipers nest anyone?

coldwinter · 15/10/2013 12:40

You mean in my absence from here, (only started reading and posting again recently as I am stuck at home ill), that mumsnet has turned into the Daily Mail opinion page Shock

OP posts:
Latara · 15/10/2013 12:40

I missed the penis beaker thread; why would it bring in so many people?

I have noticed a certain change in opinions here and lack of empathy.

TEErickOrTEEreat · 15/10/2013 12:41

Because it was all over Twitter and FB so new posters are coming onto MN.

manicinsomniac · 15/10/2013 12:47

No, I'm not deliberately nasty to people. I misunderstood the question, sorry.

humphryscorner · 15/10/2013 12:52

I'm not sure if it's always been like this as I'm fairly new.
There is a distinct lack of sympathy I've noticed on certain topics so YANBU

chicaguapa · 15/10/2013 12:56

I think the anonymity of the internet brings out the devil's advocate and confrontational side of people. I for one have noted a few names of people who I don't think I'd have the time of day for in RL but I hope I won't be seeing them again and that they have an ounce of self-awareness and have NCd by now.

NotYoMomma · 15/10/2013 12:57

Jesus wept

TEErickOrTEEreat · 15/10/2013 13:00

They may have pounds of self awareness and not agree with you that they need to NC or be 'nicer'.

TheGinLushMinion · 15/10/2013 13:00

Penis beaker-wtf?? Hmm. Anyone care to share what I've missed?
