To be worried about this??

Hi all, I've recently stopped breastfeeding and still have a small amount of milk, a couple of months ago I noticed a lump under my nipple, the lump was like a ridge, rubbery and fairly large, when I checked my other breast I felt the same sized and shape lump in the same place under my nipple. I briefly mentioned them to my doctor during a postnatal check and she didn't examine me or seem concerned stating that it was probably the result of breastfeeding. Anyway the lumps are still there they aren't causing me any problems but I'm wondering whether to go to the doctors as I can be a bit of a worrier regarding my health.
My husband and close friends say that they doubt its anything to worry about due to the lumps being exactly the same and it could just be normal breast tissue.
I'm just wondering if you think a trip to the gp is in order thanks.

Hi scottish I think you would like some reassurance, so absolutely make an appointment with your GP.

ThePinkOcelot · 13/10/2013 18:08

If you are worried, I would make an appointment specifically for that. However when I stopped bf dd2 my breasts were really lumpy and sore. I went to the GP and she examined and said it was normal. There was also nothing she could give me for it.

Rubbery, spongy lumps - i.e not hard- are unlikely to be cancerous tumours. They are probably cysts caused by the BFing.
I had similar under the bottom of one breast, not from BFing. GP sent me to Breast Clinic, but just feeling them I was told they were fibrous lumps. Mine were a bit painful though.

Actual words were "fibrous tissue".

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health so if you're worried, get checked. If you get fobbed off, ask for a second opinion.

I would go and get it checked out just for my own peace of mind.

After I stopped BF-ing DC3 I got something like that. I found that if I did a lot of manual rolling and warm flannel over for a while etc., eventually it expressed - it was clogged up. Bit ick, but there you go. However, if it's a cyst or something I wouldn't be too vigorous. Maybe have a gentle go, and if nothing comes of it, go to the GP.

I've just had another feel and the ridge extends around both my nipples leading me to believe that it may be how my breasts are made if you see what I mean I will still get them checked though thanks for the advice x

Good luck scottish, I am sure you will feel happier once you have been reassured. x
