To think if you can't work you can't care either?

So if somebody is in receipt of sickness benefits, therefore they are deemed unfit to work, they should not be entitled to carers allowance for caring for another person.

In my mind if they are fit to care for another person they are fit to work!

Certainly some potty mouths on this thread. Disgusting! Everyone is entitled to their opinion!

TheBigJessie · 13/10/2013 17:20

If you can use a cooker, why aren't you working for Gordon Ramsey?

3littlefrogs · 13/10/2013 17:21

I suppose the logical conclusion is that if the sick person is going to die anyway why bother with food, care, somewhere to live, heating etc.

Think of all the money it would save if these sick people that need care would just hurry up and die. Then the carers could be rounded up and forced to attend job centres every day.

Maybe we should bring back the workhouse?

Horrible OP stella69x. Sad

lilac26 · 13/10/2013 17:21

Yes, I agree. Completely.

Yes, if unable to work, should not be carrying out care duties.

What should happen is emergency professional care should be provided to cover the gap while the carer recuperates. And the carers allowance should continue to be paid, the same as in any decent job - bills still need paying etc.

HTH

usualsuspect · 13/10/2013 17:21

Oh fuck off with your potty mouth 'whinging'

stella69x · 13/10/2013 17:22

Yes dawn I knew how this could of gone down, that's why I have asked it here, my original question was inflammatory from the responses. I am trying myself to get a better understanding of the world than the one in which I was raised.

I thank you all for your passionate responses, which I will re read and take into consideration before forming views in future.

AIBU is a good platform for gaining strong opinion.

"opinions gratefully received"

Learn from this thread and don't ask such smallminded Daily-Fail influenced questions again.

YouTheCat · 13/10/2013 17:23

Why didn't you just google it, OP? There's plenty of information out there.

You didn't do that though. You decided to come here with your petty views and start a goady, pointless thread.

So well done. And what Chip said, page 1.

expatinscotland · 13/10/2013 17:23

'I am looking for explanations as to why this is incorrect, why can a person be expected to provide care at under the minimum wage but not be able to provide care at a waged level?'

No, you're not. You're looking to goad and inflame. It is getting old. !

Certainly some potty mouths on this thread. Disgusting!

This contradicts the above pair of sentences.
If Everyone is entitled to their opinion! then that means all the people disagreeing with the OP are also entitled to their opinion.

It's a two-way street if you want to use that aphorism.

AllThatGlistens · 13/10/2013 17:27

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at some of the posters that have reared their heads on ridiculous threads today! Ffs.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 13/10/2013 17:28

I am curious, if you are able to care you are able to work as a carer?

I am looking for explanations as to why this is incorrect, why can a person be expected to provide care at under the minimum wage but not be able to provide care at a waged level?

Shock Angry

There is a concerning lack of empathy, understanding and education in your posts.

I'm just Shock

I assume your post is intended to pave the way for a suggestion that taxes should be raised to pay for fit and properly waged carers for people who would otherwise have to be cared for by their ailing spouses/disabled parents/mentally ill children?

Or what do you think should happen to those people once we had decided that their present carers were not fit to care for them?

Do you realise that there are no health and safety regulations for family carers? That many of the carers in this country are young children? That parents of a severely disabled child may well end up caring for him until they drop dead because there are not enough places in care homes and care at home is the cheap option?

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/10/2013 17:33

What is wrong with MN today?

op if you ask an insensitive stupid question you will get blunt answers in response.

The line "not all questions are stupid" is a fallacy.

Fifibluebell · 13/10/2013 17:34

My uncle is a live in carer for my grandfather which he actually enjoys before that he didn't work he has many many problems but it doesn't stop him taking my grandfather to the toilet and doing dinner for them both or calling an ambulance should he need it which he wouldn't be able do if he was on his own!! I'm pretty sure he can't claim disability and carers allowance at the same time it's one or the other so IMO yabu

ShadeofViolet · 13/10/2013 17:34

So if all the Carers go to work, who will look after the person they have been caring for OP?

dandydorset · 13/10/2013 17:54

dont bother asking on here op

you will just get the stock answer of,"walk in my shoes for a week",told to f of and offered a biscuit

didnt you know everybody on benefits according to some on MN never cheat the system,,etc etc and you cant possibly ask anything regarding this topic as you will be a troll

ask on another site op,because it's wasting your time here

fiverabbits · 13/10/2013 17:55

I claimed carers allowance for caring for my DS who was diagnosed disabled aged 8. In the 24 years I received carers allowance I had an illness that stopped me walking properly never mind working but I had to carry on caring. When I became a pensioner I couldn't claim carers allowance and as my DH is on ESA because of ill health he cannot claim carers allowance either. Has my DS became a normal adult, will he ever be cured, NO he will not he will become worse. In 24 years he has never had any respite care nor has anyone asked if we would like any help. If we all get any worse the DD knows that caring for us will be down to her.

usualsuspect · 13/10/2013 17:55

Great advice,dandy.

Another site might suit the OP better.

Maybe the DM comments page?

gordyslovesheep · 13/10/2013 17:55
