To be peeved about picturegate?

We have just had DC's room decorated professionally and it looks fab. I bought a picture to go on DC's wall and DH agreed to hang it up in the middle of one of the bare walls. DH likes to do things "by eye" and when I suggested he measured with a tape measure to make sure it was in the middle I got called OCD, obsessive, and to get out of his face, he's got it covered, by eye is fine etc.

Am now feeling rather bruised. He knows I like pictures measured so that they are in the right place, shelves to be straight and fit properly etc, etc. I thought people normally measure to know where to place picture hooks etc. AIBU or is he?

We've never measured. By eye is fine as long as you can do it!

He sounds a bit mean, though. Is he grouchy because you wanted him to measure it, rather than doing it yourself? Or generally in a bad mood? I'd leave him alone for a while and expect him to make a reconcillatory gesture, to be honest.

MortifiedAdams · 13/10/2013 16:01

If you wanted it hung a certain way then why didnt you do it yourself?

printmeanicephoto · 13/10/2013 16:14

The agreement was I'd buy picture, he'd hang it up.

CrohnicallyLurking · 13/10/2013 16:17

Sometimes 'by eye' is better as you get the picture in a position that looks right, whereas if you measure then variations in the lighting, wonky walls etc can make it look wrong.

desperateforaholiday · 13/10/2013 16:18

If my dh moaned at me for doing something my way then I would tell him where go. If its that important to you then you should hang it yourself

CajaDeLaMemoria · 13/10/2013 16:20

That makes sense, print

I suppose telling him to measure it (even if it was a suggestion, and you were trying to be helpful) probably came across as criticism. Hanging by eye is pretty standard, it tends to look better than measuring it out to the precise mm but it looking 'wrong' somehow.

He sound stressed and lashing out.

HaroldLloyd · 13/10/2013 16:25

I've never ever measured to hang a picture.

He sounds like a grumpy bugger though.

Thumbwitch · 13/10/2013 16:29

Picture hanging is one of my "Monica" things. They have to be the right height, they have to be straight - but I'm not fussed about them being central by the mm. By eye is fine for that. Depends on how good your DH's "eye" is though - my DH is an engineer and I'm a Monica, so our collective "eye" is pretty good, certainly good enough for me!

MortifiedAdams · 13/10/2013 16:30

And, of course, once these agreements are made, they are set in stone Hmm

You want it, buy it, you want it hung a certain way, hang it.

moustachio · 13/10/2013 16:33

What did I just read... This is ridiculous.

printmeanicephoto · 13/10/2013 16:51

Yeah it is my Monica thing.

I get what you are saying. Sometimes DH doesn't do things as I would have wanted them done.

However, I think the only answer is to do it yourself if it's really important to you.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 13/10/2013 17:29

Last time I hung a picture I used a can of mouse to hammer the nail in. It exploded everywhere. I am your worst nightmare OP Grin

CoffeeTea103 · 14/10/2013 07:23

You agreed he would hang in. Yes you do sound like you would have annoyed him. Yabu and ridiculous .

CoffeeTea103 · 14/10/2013 07:23

It not in

FunkyBoldRibena · 14/10/2013 07:25

But is it in the centre now. That's the most important question.

puds11 poor mouse. Why was it in a can in the first place?

ScarerStratton · 14/10/2013 08:06

Did you make a ro dent in the can?

comingalongnicely · 14/10/2013 09:02

We buy it, I hold it up until DW says "yes, there", I draw a dot on the wall & drill a hole.

Simple, no measuring, done by eye & a team effort so if it's wrong later on, we're both to blame!!
