to ask if you lost weight after removing Mirena?

There was a recent-ish thread about Mirena side effects which is why I'm posting this here. Basically I think my Mirena is the only logical explanation for why, when it was put in, I gained 2 1/2 stone in six months and cannot seem to get it off no matter how little I eat or how much I exercise. This is the first time in my entire life I've ever had any kind of weight issue. My doctor insists it can't be the Mirena and it's just a side effect of also hitting 40 right when we put in the coil. I've been struggling with this for years and I'm pretty fed up, but since the coil is there for medical reasons, not birth control, taking it out would require serious thinking about what to try instead. What I want to know is, if you blamed Mirena for weight gain (and I see some do), did it ACTUALLY come off when you removed the coil?

ive been wondering this for 5 years!

ive put on 2st -this went on in the first few months, im due to have it taken out/replaced, tho google says i can get another year out of it...

Was talking to my friend about this yesterday, she put on half a stone over 3 months and lost it when the coil was removed, we both had acne which stopped as well

She was on it because of the flow of her periods, apparently! The things you talk about over coffee!

I have a mirena, had twice and had put in both times postpartum - and lost the baby weight with it in. I know that doesn't help...

What are you eating (types of food) and what exercise?

I'm no longer entirely starving the whole time so that helps,I've fairly easily dropped about a stone and a half since it came out at Easter.I now weigh give or take what I weighed before my children now.Ive read all the literature and intellectually I know that mirena should nt cause weight gain But I really think it does.

the hormone, which is released slowly with Mirena, can sometimes make you hungrier and eat more, so gain weight. So it's the not the Mirena which causes weight gain, it's the increased appetite!

I put on lots of weight 3 years ago when I had it fitted - almost 2 stone in a year, despite not doing anything different. My GP said it wasn't the Mirena, it was my age, but I think it was. I had the Mirena taken out 4 weeks ago (it was put in for heavy periods and made not a bit of difference) and so too early to tell if I will lose weight (I hope) but already I feel better in myself.
