will be released after serving just 4 years in prison for the murder of baby P shes still young enough to go on to have other children, and its a disgrace that what baby P suffered is thought to only carry 4 years punishment

she was on remand as well as her sentence thats where the 6 years comes from (ithink)

Doodlequackquack · 08/10/2013 17:09

Yes, I think the sentence is sickeningly short. But, the time to be shocked was when the sentence was handed down, not when the parole board do their job.

She won't have a good life that's for sure, and nothing now will undo that child's suffering. Sad

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 08/10/2013 17:10

She wasn't jailed "indefinitely", hat is very misleading reporting. The sentence is actually "indeterminate" with a tariff of how much time must be served before an application for parole will be considered. This is designed to keep dangerous offenders behind bars forever and to ensure that less dangerous people have been rehabilitated before release.

gamerchick · 08/10/2013 17:10

She's probably safer in jail.

TheFabulousIdiot · 08/10/2013 17:12

people who have served the time they were given under the law that was applied surely ARE allowed to get out of jail? Not free of course, so it's not a 'get out of jail free' card.

I hope she has received help to be rehabilitated and I hope that she will not be allowed to parent any more children but I would never ever want someone to be sterilized.

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 08/10/2013 17:12

"Time served" on remand is worth double off the sentence. Therefore it is possible for a defendant that has been remanded pending trial for 7 months to receive 1 year imprisonment and still leave court a free man

HardFacedCareeristBitchNigel · 08/10/2013 17:14

Bowlersarm, there are around some 200 offenders on indeterminate sentences in England.

notundermyfoof · 08/10/2013 17:15

She's served her time, as disgusting as her crime was the justice system has deemed her sufficiently punished. No amount of public flogging will ever change what happened to that poor little boy. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

sparechange · 08/10/2013 17:15

bisjo
She was jailed in May 2009, so it is 4.5 years since her sentencing
Prior to that, she spent nearly 18 months on remand
That adds up to 6 years in total

Branleuse · 08/10/2013 17:19

I'd shed no tears if she rotted in jail forever, but at least she will be on a licence where she can be recalled at any time. I imagine if she ever has more children they will be immediately removed, and she will be kept a close eye on.

MsIngaFewmarbles · 08/10/2013 17:20

I would just like to know that her remaining 4 children are safe, well and happy.

Any other children she gets pregnant with will be taken by social services at birth. What else can be done?

AgentZigzag · 08/10/2013 17:23

Without looking to check, I think they were all given such short sentences because it wasn't clear who had killed the little lad, or they couldn't prove it was one or other of them.

PatoBanton · 08/10/2013 17:30

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting sterilisation. I was just hopeful that any children she might have would be taken away as she has shown herself to be unable to defend them from barbaric cruelty...I don't know much about the case but considering she received a custodial sentence it sounds as though the abuse was either condoned by her or partaken in, rather than it being done against her will?

Apols for being uninformed.

PatoBanton · 08/10/2013 17:32

Also though it is awful for a baby to be removed from its mother at birth, I understand that that is probably the limit of the options open wrt this.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 08/10/2013 17:34

I think that removing a baby at birth from this woman would more accurately be described as 'fantastic'.

PatoBanton · 08/10/2013 17:36

I didn't mean that - I meant in terms of attachment and familiarity and so on, also yes from the mother's POV it is not a nice thing BUT I concur completely that it would be the ONLY valid option in this situation.

propertyNIGHTmareBEFOREXMAS · 08/10/2013 17:38

Understood.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/10/2013 17:39

There is always the possibility that she may have been rehabilitated and educated in jail.

I don't know what help they offered her.

8dayweek · 08/10/2013 17:41

Thinking aloud, if she did have any future children do you think they would be removed at birth? Do Social Services not have to be objective and deal with any new children as at risk, but not have powers to remove unless there is evidence of danger to physical / emotional wellbeing etc. Or is it like (for want of a better example) when somebody is convicted of animal cruelty and then banned from keeping animals. I wonder if some kind of human rights come into play?

mrsjay · 08/10/2013 17:42

she maybe be rehabilitated but I still dont think she should be having anymore children sadly I think she will be pregnant again in the near future

fancyanother · 08/10/2013 17:43

Actually, I don't care if she is out or not, she would have to be sometimes, but I really, really hope that any children she has are immediately taken into care at birth and adopted speedily, and that anyone who has children who gets involved with her knows her background. I don't actually think she would be a danger to other peoples children, but she is completely incapable of parenting a child and shouldn't be given a chance to parent any more.

womma · 08/10/2013 17:45

I wonder if she'll be able to have her other children back?

fancyanother · 08/10/2013 17:45

Wasn't there a case a few years ago of a woman who had about 14 children that kept getting taken away at birth because she was incapable of taking care of them?

mrsjay · 08/10/2013 17:45

I wouldnt think that was possible womma
