Last night was the first in a number of years that teething had kept any of my kids (and me) awake.

Today I trotted off to the local pharmacy after 2 hours sleep through the night to buy some generic teething powder, believing A & P had been discontinued.

There was millions of the stuff on the shelf! In my experience of the small rural pharmacy they often find long forgotten products in a store room and I often treat myself to an 80s shampoo, a multipack of scrunchies etc etc.

Have they just found them in the back room? Should I rush back and buy them all? Or have they been un-discontinued and I'm wasting my money considering babyHoles may not need the lot of them and the shelves will still be full next week?

I could never find them when my DS was little.
Buy them all and sell them on ebay at inflated prices?

jacks365 · 07/10/2013 16:30

There were problems with the machines used to manufacture them but they are now back to normal so you should have no problems finding them now.

paleandinteresting · 07/10/2013 16:32

I bought some in Boots a couple of months ago. Several people had told me how brilliant it is, but didn't work for DS unfortunately.

curlew · 07/10/2013 16:36

Or just use icing sugar? That's all it is after all........

pookamoo · 07/10/2013 16:38

Isn't it actually crushed chamomilla, not icing sugar? curlew We had the cham. granules and squished them between two spoons to make powder. Worked perfectly.

MairyHoles · 07/10/2013 16:38

I will leave it then. To be honest I bought the teetha stuff as well, just in case they had brought out A&P with a new (shit) formula.

I do like the idea of selling it for more than it's value though, sadly I'm too lazy erm, busy to do that.

I just can't handle another night of being woken every 10 mins, I would try anything!

"Matricaria" apparently, extracted from Chamomile.

Tiredemma · 07/10/2013 16:42

does this actually work?

DoItTooJulia · 07/10/2013 16:46

Oh, we still have a shortage here.

We used them with ds1 nearly 10 years ago. They cost £2 a box.

Went to buy some for new ds and only managed to find it in one pharmacy after much schlepping round to find it. £5.50 a box now. I nearly fell over at the till! They have sold out now though and don't know if/when they'll be getting new stock. I was told the company was bought out and the new owners thought the machines were too old so are replacing them. Once replaced they will be able to make much more. No idea if its true.

How much are you paying?

DoItTooJulia · 07/10/2013 16:47

Ha! Just clicked the link! Looks like it's true about he machines!

MairyHoles · 07/10/2013 16:49

It was £5.35, slightly more than the teetha stuff but not by much! I did feel a bit foolish paying over a tenner for 2 small boxes but hopefully one of them will work!

DoItTooJulia · 07/10/2013 16:55

If it works, it's worth paying I reckon! We always found A and P to be the best. Nice to have an alternative to calpol.

Shesparkles · 07/10/2013 16:55

That stuff saved my sanity when dd was a toddler! She didn't get it just for teething though, if she was fractious or narky, out came the teething powders .

Well it was that or gin [and the gin might not even have been for me!]

noblegiraffe · 07/10/2013 17:01

If you can find any Karvol that would be worth stocking up on. It seems to have vanished from the shelves around here.

curlew · 07/10/2013 17:46

"Isn't it actually crushed chamomilla, not icing sugar? curlew We had the cham. granules and squished them between two spoons to make powder. Worked perfectly."

That staff you were cursing to a powder? Sucrose.

curlew · 07/10/2013 17:46

Or even crushing? Grin

TheCrumpetQueen · 07/10/2013 17:49

Buy them and sell them for a tenner on amazon

MairyHoles · 08/10/2013 11:13

Got a whole night of sleep! Hooray! It was worth the money. It was the same as it used to be, not a new shit formula. I actually spoke to a HV last night, we attend the same event on a Monday. In the area she works you apparently can't get it easily as people buy it to add to cocaine before selling it!?

So if anyone is desperate for it (for it's intended use) I could try and get it for you, now that I know its true value. Suspect I'm being over dramatic about one sleepless night
