To have a second glass of wine (pregnant)

FlightMode · 05/10/2013 22:29

I'm not a big drinker, half a glass a week is the most I've had in pregnancy (not much more when not pregnant) -am 25 wks

But DH brought home a really, really nice bottle of red tonight and I had one small glass with dinner - it was lovely. I've just poured myself another. Doubt I'll finish it, but is it terrible to even start it?

Children with FAS usually have a mother with alcoholism. All the ones that I have met have and I've known a few.

BadCopNoDonut · 05/10/2013 22:48

Hope you're enjoying the wine!

Stressing out about whether or not to drink it is more likely worse than just drinking it. ;-)

roadwalker · 05/10/2013 22:49

My DD has FASD and her birthmother was not an alcoholic

HoneyDragon · 05/10/2013 22:49

Are you asking or do you want validation for a decision you've already made but don't feel comfortable with?

Driz · 05/10/2013 22:49

2 glasses is fine, I would probably have even gone for the third! And my DH is American and even he didn't see a problem!

WandaDoff · 05/10/2013 22:49

Have the wine, enjoy it Wine

Famzilla · 05/10/2013 22:50

I wouldn't do it because I am massive anxious about everything, and I knew that if DD was born unhealthy I would blame myself entirely. Even if it wasn't the fault of the odd glass of wine or anything I could have done. But that's just me, a massive worrier and glutton for punishment.

If you're happy to drink it then enjoy it, don't worry about what a bunch of strangers on the internet say Smile

YouTheCat · 05/10/2013 22:50

Binge drinker then? All the children I have known with FAS have certainly had issues with alcohol. 2 glasses of wine, once, is not going to harm a baby.

roadwalker · 05/10/2013 22:50

there are a lot of units in a glass of red
why take the risk when it is such a short time in your life but a lifetime for your child

BadCopNoDonut · 05/10/2013 22:50

Oops. Not FB...that was meant to be a Wink

YouTheCat · 05/10/2013 22:51

2 small glasses of wine will be about 3 units. Hardly a binge.

Would you put the wine in a bottle and give it to your baby?
I don't understand why people just can't give up for 9 months?
I have looked after a few children with FAS, not worth the risk, I know others will disagree but you did ask.

This

Faith48 · 05/10/2013 22:52

I wouldn't drink it myself but its your baby so it's your choice.

AllThreeWays · 05/10/2013 22:54

I have a foster child with FAS. one glass is fine I would think, but I would never risk more. Alcohol crosses the placenta and effects whatever cells are developing at that moment. One drink small effect, lots of drink, lots of effect.
Please ignore PepiNephdrine, that is terrible advice.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 05/10/2013 22:54

No I wouldn't. Nine months then the rest of your non pregnant life to drink however much you want.
It's a no brainer IMO. I hate all this "one won't hurt" crap. You don't know. You can't know. Why risk it.

WandaDoff · 05/10/2013 22:54

I say that as someone with a sn child.

CHJR that was totally out of order Hmm

ElBombero · 05/10/2013 22:54

You know how you'll feel, I say go for it unless you start feeling tipsy then of course stop

CocacolaMum · 05/10/2013 22:55

3 units is not a binge, but isn't it too much to be able to drive a car?

FlightMode · 05/10/2013 22:57

Ok I had about 2/3 of glass and I don't want any more now anyway

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 05/10/2013 22:58

That would depend very much on the individual. It'd probably be on the cusp. But the OP said she had the other glass earlier with dinner anyway.

I don't know if the OP is planning a journey out in her car this evening. Maybe you should ask her?

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 05/10/2013 22:58

Why would your DH bring a bottle of red wine home?

Personally I wouldn't but one glass is probably ok, I had one glass when I was about 30 weeks but then felt unwell so didn't bother again or at all during my second pregnancy. I don't think I would take the risk but I am not suggesting one or two glasses would actually be a problem, I just don't think you know, I agree with AllThreeways

FlightMode · 05/10/2013 22:59

Nope we're at home!

OP posts:
roadwalker · 05/10/2013 22:59

you know dont you that whatever a bunch of strangers on the internet say no-one can guarantee that you are not harming your child

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 05/10/2013 22:59

Sorry OP x posts.

FlightMode · 05/10/2013 23:00

Clover what's wrong with H bringing wine home?
