hey I was at lunch with a good friend today who is a mum of 2, heroh woks full time and she Is a stahm. they receive wtc and cb.
she was discussing a mutual mate of ours who is a single mum of 1 and is a stahm who receives income support ctc and cb.
she was being rather opinionated about her relying on benefit and not working. I don't really see the difference between the 2 of them, she is better off that our other mate but is a stahm too so what gives her the right to judge her

aibu ????

She is being unreasonable. But at the same time it's very unfair that if you're single mother you will be supported by the state to stay home but if you're in a couple on the low income the state forces the mother back into work.

Different situations isn't it?

Neither can (probably) help having a low income. The government is there to top up to a reasonable standard of living.

The problem is the minimum wage is too low in line with the cost of living, so all the tax credits are doing is subsiding the wage to a reasonable standard.

The state forces single parents back to work too. Don't panic.

This is another of those goady threads isn't it?

I do disagree with the notion that only he is paying tax and she is spending his money. A married couple are a unit and his money is her money. By sah she could well be enabling him to do a job that he might not otherwise be able to do. It might be that the child care costs of both going to work are prohibitive.
