Has channel 4 lost the plot or am I being a prude?

I've seen a couple of adverts now for an upcoming programme on c4 where couple go into a big box room on a stage (looks like in front of a live audience, but suspect that's staged) to have sex. Then when they are done they emerge to discuss the experience with a panel.

Is it me, or this just fucking odd?

This sounds incredibly boring. It's not even rude, because you won't see anything.

MrsCakesPremonition · 05/10/2013 00:53

Channel 4 are running a "Real Sex" season, looking at how porn is distorting our expectations of what sex is/should be. Which is all very good a worthy.

I'm not sure that the sex cube programme is going to make much difference though.

footballagain · 05/10/2013 01:12

Mrscakes

I had no idea about them making a season of prigs about porn distorting things, I totally agree with challenging the porn industry as it is currently portrayed and advertised.

But I agree that I'm not sure how this programme will change things/alter perceptions.

I will watch it on Monday to see!

Progs!

It's all a load of pretentious crap.

If I wanted to watch other people have sex, I'd watch porn. But I don't so I don't, iyswim.

All this 'omg kids have seen porn' is total bollocks. I saw plenty of porn in the 70s and 80s (found my dad's rather hardcore stash plus videos) and I can't say it has made me into some kind of deviant with outrageous expectations.

footballagain · 05/10/2013 01:18

Don't think anyone said anything about becoming sexual deviants otherthecat!

Ratings stunt.

Is the box transparent so the audience xan watch proceedings, if so then whats the difference between that & a live porn show?

neiljames77 · 05/10/2013 01:27

What's the betting that one of the first contestants will be Kerry Katona?

MrsCakesPremonition · 05/10/2013 01:29

The box is not transparent - you can see what looks like a rather tasteful wood effect finish (giant sauna?) in this photo behind the presenters.

BuzzardBirdBloodBath · 05/10/2013 01:37

They get extra points if they make the box fall over ;-)

MrsCakesPremonition · 05/10/2013 01:42

I'm imagining a real old-school C4 programme with Kevin McCloud stroking the wood and muttering about weathering and patina - while the box rocks on it's stand.

neiljames77 · 05/10/2013 01:46

I doubt they'll show Kevin McCloud stroking the wood.

MrsCakesPremonition · 05/10/2013 01:47
Wink
MidniteScribbler · 05/10/2013 01:52

Are they on a time limit? Confused

neiljames77 · 05/10/2013 01:56

I'd give it 5 minutes then knock on the door. It's bound to put them off and kill the mood.

sayithowitis · 05/10/2013 07:45

Is the box soundproof?

Twattyzombiebollocks · 05/10/2013 07:58

Youthecat - porn in the 70s &80s is not quite the same as it is now. Back then most of the stuff was bloke with big cock having fairly conventional sex with a woman with a background of naff music and lots of grunting. I would have had to either purchase a video from an adult shop, or a magazine from the top shelf.
These days its 99% man shoving cock down woman's throat until she chokes, followed by a bit of normal sex, a bit of anal sex, then more cock worshipping until man spouts off all over woman's face/mouth/tits/arse. Its far more degrading to women than it was, and far more readily available, I could open another tab on here now and be watching hardcore porn within 10 seconds

GretaGroovy · 05/10/2013 08:01

Eurgh.

WHO are the people who have presumably auditioned for this gig?!

They're surely not going to be normal people? (Who if they are anything like us are most often happy with a 5-min spoon shag and then zzzzz? Not great telly!)

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 05/10/2013 08:05

Agree -it's a ratings stunt.

And who believes they're going to have sex anyway? Who's going to check?

They'll probably read the paper.

What a stupid dumb asss idea for a 'show'

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 05/10/2013 08:07

And I'm very disappointed in Mariella Frostrup. I thought she had more feckin sense.

TrueStory · 05/10/2013 09:24

God I find myself agreeing with every post (bar 1). Must be a first.

valiumredhead · 05/10/2013 10:05

I read about this the other day, it seems so dated as a concept, very late 80's /early 90's.

mrsjay · 05/10/2013 10:35

Is this sexbox the campaign for real sex, yes cos having sex in a box in public is so real Grin
