My DD is desperate for a purple maxi micro scooter for her birthday next week. I've scoured the interweb and my local shops and the only one I can find is on a website called 'bikes for boys'.

She so wants the purple one but I just can't bring myself to shop at such a ridiculously named website.

Should I buy her the purple one from there or would IBU to buy a different colour from somewhere not so sexist?

(Or can someone please find me a purple one somewhere else)

I'm with you. I won't buy kids bikes from mothercare cos they divide them by gender and the girls ones have a dolly carrier and the boys ones have a bottle carrier.

LeoTheLateBloomer · 02/10/2013 22:19

If you can't find an alternative and she really really wants it, buy it and then leave a gushing review on how much your daughter loves it and how ridiculous it is that they should consider everything on the website only suitable for boys. Granted they might not show your review but at least you'll have made your point to them.

rhetorician · 02/10/2013 22:20

I see your point, so why not buy it direct here

SimplyRedHead · 02/10/2013 22:23

Thanks rhetorician but sadly they are out of stock until after her birthday Sad

YANBU at all but why don't you buy it and then email them to tell them it was a gift and would they please either change the name of their website or your going to shame them on Twitter through the Let Toys be Toys campaign.

ICameOnTheJitney · 02/10/2013 22:29

I might send them a polite enquiry as to what will happen to my little girl if I accidentally (owing to my feeble lady brain) bought her a bike from their website...."Will she catch The Gay or be a Lesbian?"

Titsalinabumsquash · 02/10/2013 22:31

YANBU, I won't use 'Dial a Hubby' for this very reason.

Fucking ridiculous. Angry

ImagineJL · 02/10/2013 22:36

YABU. It's the colour she wants, the style she wants, and she'll get it in time for her birthday.

Yes it's sexist and a stupid name, but some things are more important than making a point.

ICameOnTheJitney · 02/10/2013 22:37

Ooh I just sent them this

Dear "Bikes for Boys",

I would like to enquire whether you think my little girl could manage one of your "Boy's bikes"? Or is there some feature of your bikes which make them only suitable for boy's anatomy?

If I purchased a bike from you which was the right height for her...would she still be able to ride it, given it was intended only for a boy to ride?

What will happen? I ask because you stock the one bike she desires...and being only 5 years old, she's not a great reader yet and didn't realise that your stock is exclusively for males...can you please advise me further.

Kind regards,

Jitney

I'd get it for her and leave a sweetly worded but poisonous review. Your DD shouldn't have to miss out because the website is a lot of sexist shite.

NotintheMiddle · 03/10/2013 20:46

Or you could get it from www.slickwillies.co.uk/ Hmm and Grin
