Watching channel 4, man with massive facial tattoo, is this a turn on? Takes up about 90% of his face?

The post by LessMissAbs just proves that a lack of tattoos doesn't equate to an increased acceptance and tolerance of others.

Famzilla · 02/10/2013 15:41

So what?

I thought the statement was pretty self explanatory. As someone without tattoos and therefore a much higher IQ you surely must know "what".

dollymixedup · 02/10/2013 16:27

This may well out me, but I have a facial tattoo, which I got about 15 years ago (in my mid twenties) and had it touched up this year. It is just a tiny heart under my eye/top of my cheek.

It hasn't caused me any problems and I am planning to add to it. I think people assume it's a transfer/sticker.

VerySmallSqueak · 02/10/2013 17:49

I've just remembered borstal tears.

I think facial tattoos are mainly tribal in one way or another.

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 02/10/2013 17:54

At least I know his name when we pass at the school gate.....

Moistenedbint1 · 14/10/2013 00:47

Nope, they don't do anything for me I'm afraid. From mawkish, vague motivational quotations (ie "never give up"), to tribal inspired themes which have little bearing on that individuals culture.. All the way through to butterflies, the ubiquitous candy skull and japanese koi fish.. No, no,no. I see tattoos and I immediately think - lack of individuality. They're no longer unique or, for that matter "badass". They're mainstream.. Little more than a fashion trend (yeah I know the history) and tend to be popularized by gobby, lary twats and/or the mundane mid-life crisis set, who use tattooing as a kind of psychological salve to stave off the aging process. To paraphrase, "if you want to be unique -dont get a tattoo".

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2013 00:55

I don't like any tattoos because they all fade and distort to some hideous wobbly blue blob

If they actually looked like a nice flower or fairy and were coloured beautifully/vibrantly then I'd like them

But instead they ALL look shit after only a couple of years

Lazysuzanne · 14/10/2013 01:07

I care not a jot whether others do or dont like tattoo's but this:

'they ALL look shit after only a couple of years'

is incorrect
I have tattoo's from 20 years ago which look just the same as when they were first done

Lazysuzanne · 14/10/2013 01:09

(tattoos, not tattoo's Blush )

LaurieFairyCake · 14/10/2013 01:16

Unless you deliberately chose a wobbly all blue tattoo Wink I don't believe you

The highly coloured ones look lovely for a very short period of time but the ones that are all blue get distorted through ageing/ wrinkling/fading

Dare you to post a picture ..

Lazysuzanne · 14/10/2013 01:24

ha ha:o
I aint bovvered if you dont believe me...and posting a picture would prove nothing!

Lazysuzanne · 14/10/2013 01:27

...even so, here's some rather full on tattooing www.yellowblaze.net/shige-full-body.html

Caitlin17 · 14/10/2013 01:29

I really like tattoos, depending on the tattoo. I'm fascinated by people, men or women, who have full sleeves or body covering. I even quite like face and hand tattoos on certain people.

As for it being the preserve of low iq thugs as the agent for the defence I give you Dave Grohl, Mark Lanegan, Johnny Depp and David Beckham all heavily tattooed and about as far as low iq thugs as it would possible to be.

Caitlin17 · 14/10/2013 01:30

Dammit, as far from....

Moistenedbint1 · 14/10/2013 08:57

I'm fascinated by people, men or women, who have full sleeves or body covering.

Long suspected some devotees (but by no means all) acquire "sleeves" and more extensive "ink" to compensate for their somewhat staid, stuffy personalities - eg "deep down I'm not really a long suffering bank manager .. I'm edgy, rebellious..hard" . Tattoos publicly/socially/personally affirm or communicate that idealized image they have of themselves. And believe me, these days its typically very ordinary, sometimes vapid individuals who go for extreme, extensive tattoos like sleeves.

KneesoftheBee · 14/10/2013 09:10

I don't have any tattoos myself but can appreciate the artistry in those that are well done.

I do find facial tattoos a bit intimidating though.

As for linking tattoos with criminals, I think it's a pretty stupid person who is planning a life of crime to go out and get themselves a very identifying feature.

Neitheronethingortheother · 14/10/2013 09:11

Did you see Sinead o'connors facial tattoos. She has a "b" and a "q" inked on her cheeks. Nothing to do with the shop but i think its supposed to be an uncomfortable reminder to an ex for the way he treated her and also to de prettify herself so its not het looks that men will find attractive. She was on tv recently and i couldn't get my head around why someone would permanently mark themselves because of a man.

pinkyredrose · 14/10/2013 09:15

moistened what on earth gives you the authority to declare that all tattooed people follow your preconceived ideas about why they get tattooed?

I'm afraid you are coming across as a patronising, big headed 'know it all'. A bit like a school prefect who's power has gone to thier head.

Moistenedbint1 · 14/10/2013 09:25

To specifically answer the op - Without wanting to appear too clichéd, I think the human face is a masterpiece.. An amazing piece of engineering. Its fascinating... To take that and embellish it with ink is a bit like defacing or spraypainting a beautiful piece of architecture.

Moistenedbint1 · 14/10/2013 09:37

Reread what I said pinky. You'll find I said "some" .. "Not all". Enough of the knee-jerk reaction eh? If this affects your delicate constitution, you'd best avoid aibu.

Furthermore this is a thread where individuals are invited to express personal opinions. It's specifically that which gives me "the authority" to express these views. Jeez.. I can scarcely believe I need to explain this to a fully grown cogniscent adult.

pinkyredrose · 14/10/2013 09:42

Enough of the insults please. Am amused at the lengths you're going to to defend your judgemental stance.

BrunelsBigHat · 14/10/2013 09:58

I lived in New Zealand, and I love the Moko, the proper facial tattoo.

But it does have to be done right, as each bit of it has a meaning personal to the wearer. I don't think it had quite the same predjudice there, and some business types with Maori heritage were getting them done. It looked well cool with a smart suit.

I met an English chap who'd had one doneinthe UK and it just looked wrong, because it didn't have all the right components.

Other facial tattoos, I'm a bit meh. Can look great, but I like to be able to hide my tattoos. I'd love a wrist tattoo, but I think I'd end up hating it if I got sick of looking at it.

Moistenedbint1 · 14/10/2013 10:07

It's human nature to be judgmental. We all (even including you pinky.. who despite your protestations has gone on to judge me) make snap judgements about our fellow men - this may be based on the property an individual owns, to the vehicle they drive, their personal attire, profession, associates etc etc. Not an especially pleasant human trait but nevertheless, we alldo it.

Lazysuzanne · 14/10/2013 10:25

I think that when it comes to tattoos the for and against camps are just never going to see eye to eye.

Bit like meat eaters and vegetarians.

I'm a tattooed vegetarian btw-not that there is any correlation between the two.
