Watching channel 4, man with massive facial tattoo, is this a turn on? Takes up about 90% of his face?

namey - is that the full body of the previous head shot? (does that sentence even make sense)

He is even more scarey from the front.

No, I don't get that at all. It is just so extreme and so permanent. Can't understand those all over tattoos at all.

catballou · 02/10/2013 00:39

Look, if you want people to think you're a criminal, or you don't give a toss about being employed, get a facial tattoo. Otherwise use your brain and don't. End of story.

Funghoul · 02/10/2013 00:50

Zombie boy is well known in the tattoo world, he's also in a lady gaga video. I have loads of tattoos, tunnels in my ears and skin divers in my arm which are like a type of implant. I don't really agree with facial tattoos but each to their own. I said upthread I like Kat von ds, but she's a tattooist herself so not really that out there for her profession. To judge someone on their appearance is a bit off though.

catballou · 02/10/2013 01:11

It might not be politically correct to judge to judge someone on their appearance but nonetheless it is how the world works.

Lazysuzanne · 02/10/2013 01:22

Imo the face is about the most extreme place to have a tattoo, because, well, it's your face, faces are highly significant for humans and having it tattoo'd really changes your face.

I dont think 'attractiveness' is really the point.
Very much doubt I'd ever have a facial tattoo but I'd defend another persons right to do so.

Lazysuzanne · 02/10/2013 01:25

...infact I think the urge to permanently mark your skin is rarely rooted in the desire to look attractive

SelectAUserName · 02/10/2013 02:02

I don't. I wouldn't necessarily judge a person's IQ or honesty on the basis of having tattoos, facial or otherwise, but I don't find them aesthetically attractive.

When I was younger I used to be quite keen on tattoos and considered getting one (I didn't in the end as I have hyper-sensitive skin that stretches and scars really easily) but as I get older I'm turning into a right old gimmer and have mostly gone off tattoos altogether.

EmmaBemma · 02/10/2013 05:15

I used to not like them but the more tattooed I get myself, I find I do quite like some of them. Usually dotwork/geometric ones. But I'd never have one myself, is such a huge step to take as you could never cover up.

StupidFlanders · 02/10/2013 05:36

My dh is from a culture that does this- his mum looks great! (Not Maori)

daisychain01 · 02/10/2013 05:43

Wouldnt it limit someone's job opportunities with a facial tattoo, or at least narrow down the type of work they could apply for?

Or maybe those people have already decided, well I'm not going to be a barrister, a policeman, in an office etc, so I dont care ....

Just wondering, thats all.

daisychain01 · 02/10/2013 05:52

X post with catballou, and I agree with you, cat, it isnt realistic expecting people to accept someone on the basis of "I am who I am, don't judge me by my tattoos", but in RL, anyone turning up for an interview with a facial tattoo has blown in before they open their mouth! Sadly, they could be the salt of the earth, or a brilliant intellectual, people wont see past the inky thing on their cheek or wherever.

C'est la vie!

EspressoMonkey · 02/10/2013 05:55

No. We had a new gardener at the start of summer, he had tattoos on his face and it bothered me. He seemed like a nice chap but i think his tattoos are supposed to mean something and that is what bothered me. He was from Russia, i had visions of him getting his tattoos in prison. DH found a new gardener PDQ.

ElleBelly · 02/10/2013 05:57

I love tattoos and have numerous myself. I wouldn't ever have one on my face, just because it couldn't be concealed for work.I'm a nurse and mine are all covered by my uniform. The only tattoos I would judge are offensive/racist ones.
I wouldn't kick Rick Genest out of bed either!

LtEveDallas · 02/10/2013 06:48

I'm not keen on them, but I did meet a woman once that had a small (maybe 2inch) fairy on the side of her forehead, right up by her hairline. She said it was in memory of her DD, because she was 'always on her mind'. I thought that was sweet.

daisychain01 · 02/10/2013 07:04

LtEve actually, that is very lovely. Made me go awww!

ElbowPrincess · 02/10/2013 07:15

I have never, ever seen a tattoo that I have actually liked. Facial tattoos are awful.

Bunbaker · 02/10/2013 07:16

I find facial tattoos make someone look a little intimidating as well. It makes someone look "hard". So, no I don't find it attractive. I know my company wouldn't employ anyone with a facial tattoo. Customer facing employees aren't allowed to wear their facial piercings either.

I know lots of lovely, gentle people with discreet tattoos, but I am not really a tattoo fan, especially not those in your face ones. I am old enough to remember that only "hard" people, sailors and prisoners had tattoos back in the day.

SoupDragon · 02/10/2013 07:20

Clearly some find facial tattoos attractive or people wouldn't have them done :)

I find the repulsive and yes, I would make an initial judgement of someone based on them but I wouldn't let it stop me actually getting to know them. I think most people make an initial judgement of people based on their appearance - the key is what you do with that judgement.

I was behind a tattooed couple in Primark last week and I desperately wanted to ask whether their tattoos had special meanings as they just appeared to be a mishmash of random stuff. I didn't though! The best ones I've seen were on a hairdresser I had for a few years - he was black and they were all plain black abstract patterns. I imagine they were all over his upper body as I could see them on his arms and chest. None on his face though.

Tattoos generally aren't my thing though. That zombie guy from the Lady Gaga video looks horrendous in my mind.

Shreksfiona · 02/10/2013 08:46

I have discreet ones due to my job, I am in the wedding industry each to there own but what I do find in attractive is them bull rings in the nose and when the ear has been stretched

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 02/10/2013 08:47

I don't like facial tattoos.

I thought the other bloke on the programme ( the one with the dog tattoo), his tattoos seemed really well done and thought about.

I like some tattoos, but to be honest most of them just look like random scribblings. Harry Styles is a good example of someone who looks likes they've just gone a bit mad with a marker pen.

Shreksfiona · 02/10/2013 08:47

Unattractive*

Toadinthehole · 02/10/2013 08:55

Living in NZ, I occasionally see people with facial tattoos, pretty much always Maori. I think they look great and I wish they were more common.

trice · 02/10/2013 09:17

I always wonder if facial tattoos are a form of self harming if they are deliberately ugly. Same with piercing.

Dh is heavily and beautifully tattooed with flowers. Not on the face though. I tease him that he adds a touch of laura Ashley to the bedroom.

He is neither thick nor aggressive.

harticus · 02/10/2013 09:36

I am one of those lefty liberal types that thinks passing judgement on people's appearances is simply not on. So if you want to get tattooed/pierced/spray tanned then go right ahead.
Meanwhile the secret petty bourgeois in me has told my son in no uncertain terms that I will kill him if he ever sets foot near a tattoo parlour.

livinginwonderland · 02/10/2013 10:07

Not a fan of facial tattoos but most other ones are fine. DP has one on his arm and he's currently planning his second and I'm planning my first one.

Tattos mean you're aggressive and have a low IQ? Really? Hmm
